Thinking back, I realize that I'm a naturist in several different ways. My first naturist experience was probably being naked on a deserted beach at age 18. Analyzing it now, many years later, I think there was a combination of the pleasure of being "one with nature" and the youthful exuberance of breaking a taboo - but still being careful not to be "caught". From what I hear, many people feel this combination of doing something which is at once very natural and socially "forbidden". Later, I started going to nude beaches. There is still a sense of "oneness with nature", although less pronounced, because of all the people, the kiosk selling ice cream and so on. And instead of the breaking of the taboo, it is the sense of freedom of being in a place, for once, which is free of society's stupid bodyphoebia. Yet another arena are the nude hotels, the nude swims at local swimming pools - social naturist gatherings away from nature. Here, the main point is the naturism-with-others - as on the beach - but without the nature... I've also been to nude gay beaches, which is a welcome refuge from the phobia of anything sexual that are rampant at most nude beaches. Being a naturist feels a bit different in the different arenas, but I think the different ways are valuable and not in conflict.
