Disappearing friends.....

I've had a couple of people with whom I had connected on here and been "friends" who had disappeared from my list (and I from theirs). Had we not been in the middle of a conversation, I"m not sure how long it might have taken to notice it. I'm not sure if it is a "site hiccup" or if one of us accidentally did something to sever that tie. Anyone know??
