"Yoni Anatomy: Get to Know Yourself" First lets talk about Yoni language. As youve already read yoni is the Sanskrit word for the female reproductive organs. It is considered a beautiful, sacred and honoring word. Many people like to use other words such as: Vagina, Pussy, Cunt, Va-jayjay, Hoo Ha, Down There and many, many more. Some words make us laugh, some are embarrassing, and some are even painful to hear or impossible to utter. One word that gets lost and rarely used is Vulva. The Vulva is the external genital organs. It refers to the Clitoris, Clitoral Hood, the Inner and Outer Labia, the Pubic Mound and the Vestibule and its glands. Often when we talk about to our Vaginas, we really mean the Vulva. As in, "Cynthia just got her vagina pierced". Its unlikely that Cynthia got a piece of jewelry in her vaginal canal. She probably got her labia or clit hood pierced, part of the vulva. Or, "Honey your vagina is so beautiful". Well thank you for that darling, but unless you are viewing me with a speculum, youre actually looking at my vulva. Most slang terms (and even the word Yoni) refer to the vulva and the vagina as a whole. Having an awareness of this term is important. It reminds us to remember all of our individual parts and how special they are in their appearance and functions. Some feminists have likened the exclusive use of the word vagina as a form of psychological castration, since the vagina is often focused on for its role in reproduction, while the vulva (in particular the clitoris) has more obvious erotic and pleasure functions. Celebrate your beauty and individuality, be proud of your Vulva!
