Friends and emails

NEVER get it...what's the point of being on someone's friends list if you don't ever respond to their emails. In my logic, not responding to someones email means you have 0 interest in chatting with them. So if you have 0 interest in them why would you keep yourself on their list. If it's such a pain in the ass then just take yourself off and call it a day. Any thoughts?
