But as I said that isnt the main point for me. I like the disconnect from the busyness of life that fishing affords me. If and when I get to do it nude all the better. To me its one of the few constants in my life. I was taught to fish by my Dad many, many years ago and I still enjoy going fishing with him when we can. You see some things in our lives fade away or disappear entirely when we are in the throes of alcoholism or addiction. Many of us in recovery suddenly realize its been months, years or even decades since we did something we truly loved doing but havent because getting high or drunk to over our lives for a time. I have always had fishing as a retreat to go to and sort things out. And to be honest for some time while I was using and drinking I used fishing as an excuse to get out of the house, saying I was fishing but spent more time getting wrecked than actually fishing. Fortunately for me I have rediscovered my love of fishing and use it once again to reconnect with nature and get alone with my creator. I also enjoy spending time fishing with others but doing it by myself feels like such a relief that I cant really describe other than saying its there that I both find and lose myself. So I encourage my friends in recovery, find that thing you lost in your addiction and rekindle the hobby or past time you once enjoyed but seemed to have lost time for. You may find a whole new way to make it one day at a time. God bless.
