I recently replied to a post in the Forum asking "what do you want on your headstone", and this got me searching for a grave in Australia that I knew of - one with a wonderful sculpture of a nude woman laying along the grave plinth. I found what I was looking for in an instant (and its story): https://www.cultofweird.com/death/laurence-matheson-asleep-gravestone/ After seeing its breath taking beauty all over again I then searched "nude statue cemetery" to see how unique a 'nude monument to life' really is. I found much to see! Kerepesi Cemetery in Budapest, Hungary is a 'gallery' in its own right! But even the Americans have their share of this life celebratory art in cemeteries and the stand-out piece is the bound woman at Key West FL: https://www.roadsideamerica.com/tip/72602 But this got me thinking, and thinking a real lot at that...All these works to me reflect that nudity is the freedom, joy and love of life; and that death is the polar opposite, no longer free and no longer able to enjoy life's simplicity. Or is it that we come into the world nude and therefore nudity is part of passing to the other side. Either way there is an intrinsic link between life, nudity and then death. But now if you wander through any modern cemetery, you just don't see these kinds of graves anymore. Sure there's an argument about costs and resources; but have we simply come to undervalue our lives and our loved one's lives that much? Do these monument works of art reflect that past generations despite their times of austerity, loved and embraced the only life they had better than what we do? So on that note, I am off to the local bushland again today to wander through nature, nude and loving life!
