Ollygrumps Croft

Sounds idilic Olly, apart from the midges lol. The Highland clearences came about from the enclosures act being introduced by parliament, the rich Barrons wanted more room for grazing sheep because wool fetched a premium then. It hit the North of England very hard too with families being split up and ending up in work houses. The crofters dwellings used to be split in to two parts, with the families living and sleeping in one half and the live stock sleeping in the other. Can't imagine that today !
