My blood boils whenever a nudist resort, group, or function excludes single men, not just because I am one of them (if you are one of the people who assume gender and sex identities are the same), but because of much deeper underlying issues it creates. I support egalitarianism (equal rights for all, similar to feminism but without a woman-centric view). And I loathe when creeps and predators enter nudist communities and tarnish their safety and reputation. However, excluding single men from functions is (by far) not an effective solution to addressing that problem. While a large majority of predators and creeps are statistically men (compared to other genders), a large majority of men (regardless of relationship status) are NOT creeps or predators. Furthermore, relationship status, from my observations in nudist functions, does not have a significant correlation with whether or not a man is a creep / predator. In fact, I know a few married men who have done or said questionable and creepy things that go against the core values of nudism. I would say of the men I have met, between the men who were in a relationship and the men who were not, there is about an equal spread with those who probably should not be in nudism as they do not reflect the core values of nudism (such as tying nudity with sex, pressuring people to go naked in a clothing-optional function, harassing women, or having inappropriate conversations about sex or body parts). By excluding single men from nudist functions, you are excluding a lot of people for little to no benefit. As mentioned, of the men Ive encountered who fall in the creep / predator category (and it was only a few in the last few years Ive been involved in nudism), about half were married or in a relationship. You are also discriminating. You are perpetuating the idea that single men are predators / creeps when that is far from the truth. You are putting sexism in your solution by punishing men for being men (and I don't mean being men as acting like them, but simply having man as their gender identity). You are also perpetuating the sexist idea that women cant be creeps / predators (because single women are not usually included in these bans) and that only men can. That is also far from the truth. While I havent yet met a woman who falls in the creep / predator category at nudist functions (keep in mind there are a lot more men than women in most nudist functions), Ive met women outside of nudism who do. Finally, you are discriminating against men who might be choosing to be single (like myself) for various reasons. Maybe they are asexual (and asexual men, I would say, would be least likely to give you any problems with being creeps / predators because theyre not even interested in sex to begin with). Maybe they are holding off due to some life circumstances beyond their control. Or maybe theyre just not viewed by others as fit to be in a relationship (as much as we want to deny it for the purpose of diversity, evolution dictates that there is an ideal set of qualities for a mate). Regardless, excluding single men is excluding all of these men for no good reason. It is entirely possible to allow single men into a nudist function and maintain a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for all. The nudist resort I attend, Cedar Trails, does just that. I see single men, young and older, go there all the time. Only a few times Ive gone have there been an issue (and once again, its not just single men). The key to fostering a safe environment is, as owners of a nudist function, to not be afraid to be assertive. If someone doesnt pass the vibe check, and they act abnormal for a nudist, refuse them service. Stand your ground if they dont leave or try to argue their way out of the situation. Call the police and trespass them if they continue to argue. Make it known that everyone regardless of gender or relationship status is welcome, but creepy and predatory behavior is not. Dont be lazy by banning single men. Be smart by targeting the problem at its source.
