Trip report: Kabuki Springs in San Francisco

Kabuki Springs is an indoor spa in San Francisco's Japantown neighborhood. The facilities include a locker room, separate area with toilet and sinks, one large communal area with a large hot and cold tub (one each), a large steam room and large sauna, and Japanese and Western-style showers. There are separate massage facilities outside the communal area. Kabuki is mostly clothing optional, with 6 same-gender clothing optional days (3 women, 3 men), and one clothed, mixed-gender day each week. I've gone twice for the clothing optional days. Kabuki has a policy of maintaining quiet in the spa area, so all you hear is the hum and splash of tubs, the occasional shower, and peaceful music. A rotation of staff people pass through every few minutes to replenish towels, refill water pitchers and clean. The place is very clean and in very good condition. On my last visit, a Monday afternoon, there were about 20-25 men at any one time, which never felt crowded. The age range was early 20s to one guy in his 80s. About 60% were white and half of the rest were Asian. Body types ran the full gamut from lean and athletic to neglected. Over the three hours I was there, 5 guys wore shorts and half of the rest mostly kept towels around them when moving around the common areas. Of those of us who were nude, 2 were shaved smooth and the rest had pubes that ranged from closely trimmed to full natural. That last detail interested me, because it seems like smooth pubes are mainly a nudist thing and not nearly as prevalent among those who enjoy being nude but don't identify as nudist. But I also haven't done a lot of socializing nude since smooth pubes became a thing, so I need to get out more to see if I'm right. The afternoon cost me $30. I'm going again next month.
