any one know about convert x to dvd?

i down load movies from bit torrent and use convert x to dvd to convert the avi file to a dvd format and burn it but now i keep getting this error message that says theres a decoding error, and i thinks its a bad download but just not sure because vlc media player plays the movie fine. but i read online that vlc media player will play anything even if the file is damaged. so idk what the prolbem is,
