FWIW, I loved my original Leaf (one of the first), and love the one I just got (with a bigger battery) even more, but I'll be signing up for a Tesla Model 3 Thursday to get a real cross-country capable EV.  Waffling on whether to get it or the Bolt, which will be out a year earlier, but need to get in line just in case...

I drive a Tesla Model S . It is an awesome car.  And the company customer service is great.  The only thing I question is whether I can drive her nude?  I don't have the pano roof.  But, the front windshield is really swept back making for easy exposure.
I charge mostly at home on 240v 50a Nema 14-50 RV plug in the garage.  I haven't noticed any difference in my electric bill.  The increase is smaller than the month to month variation due to weather etc. Doing pure mathematics I calculate it cost me 3 cents / mile to drive!
I'm too old to recover costs on Solar panels.
