Hutton Roof crags is a wonderful limestone pavement. This route gives the option for lots of variation (the western look can be extended to explore the boulder-strewn slope with many thickets). The route from the trig point to the stile over the wall is not all on path (if uncertain the a longer route retracing your steps to drop down to level of the still in the wall corner). Many opportunities for sunbathing on the west side of the wall, on warm, curvy limestone (in the right weather). Rare to meet anyone, met my only other naturist walker on this route as our paths crossed briefly.

Farleton Knott is a wonderful limestone pavements. 5km 180m climb. Some steep rock to ascend and descend. Great views and quiet once off the bridleway, have had only friendly interactions with rare textiled other walkers. Many opportunities to make the route more interesting with short scramble steps, but much of this is easily avoided

Skeggles Water (with optional swim) from Kentmere 8.5km 265m climb
The first section of climb through the now cleared HP plantation is popular with mountain bikers (fast descent, watch out for them), but I didn't meet any. Then a pleasant walk over to Skeggles water. Path was boggy in places, but not a problem really. Water was great for a quick skinny dip lap.ReactReply - MEMemberOriginal PosterApr 26, 2026
Crookdale Loop 15km 500m climb. Park at A6 roadside close to the start. A lovely hilly loop, much of it on grass, with the path mostly distinct, though a bit of navigating is useful. Great views all round, not a soul about, the summer sounds of wild birds and the breeze blowing through the grass
