When I first got a kayak I had dreams of big water and big fish. While I still have those dreams I find that most of the time I succumb to the simple pleasure of use my kayak to chase pan fish with my fly rod.

LorenApr 18, 2020I had the same dreams you did. In practice it turned out quite differently.
I enjoy paddling out in my sit-in OldTown Vapor and jigging for panfish (think Crappie) as well as using small top waters for sunfish and bluegill.
A more serious type fishing is using a sit-on kayak simply to get to where you are going to fish either on the flats in the Gulf of Mexico or on sand/gravel bars in rivers. Once there I get off the kayak and stand to cast which gives me a little higher vantage point. This technique is great for white bass during the spring run as well as redfish in the gulf most times of the year.
