My favorite place to go to get with nature is going to be closed for several weeks. Any recommendations on places to go on public land where I can disappear into the woods for several hours that is an easy drive from the front range of NoCo?

It depends on what's closest to you. I download the motor vehicle use maps for the area you're looking at. Find the roads that have dispersed camping and also have a significant area that is National Forest. Then check out satellite maps to see the terrain and tree cover.

Are you trying to find a place to hike out a little and relax in the forest, with sun on the pine, or are you wanting to hike for a long distance in the forest. That changes where you can go.

I know a few spots West of Boulder where you can get some freedom. You'd need to check the motor vehicle use maps that cover West of Fort Collins if you're up there. At the moment, it's mainly National Forest on calm days, in the right places.

Londo has a good idea to use MVUM maps to find the out of the way places. 4WD is very useful to help get away from the crowd
