There are tales of warriors who have made important diplomatic agreements while going outside to urinate together in the breeze. And also in the baths, the Japanese say "Hara o watte, hanasou" Literally it means "Let's split our gut and talk", but figuratively, it's just "let's get naked and talk." Again, it's a kind of offering of vulnerability and bringing two people down to the same level to talk and discuss.
