Naked people thinking they are Nudists! — Frequently Asked Questions on True Nudists

This topic has risen after a discussion on another topic on this site.
Can anybody please explain when I as a naked person can call myself a nudist?

Also what is the Nudist Ethos that one must observe to call oneself a nudist. and / or what are"The Ideals of Nudism"

I love being naked 24/7, but my spouse isn't as keen on the 24/7.However we love outdoor activities especially when we are naked or is that nude. Although most of the time we are naked at home we also like to meet and participate in social activities with other naked people.

I'm not sure why the hang up with names. If you enjoy being nude than by all means go for it. Being a "Nudist" is a relative term. Everyone has a different opinion as to the meaning. Now add the word "True" in front of it and see how many different opinions you get.

i am an gamer gasp that has nothing to do with being naked. but people on here act like being naked is so hard it is not drop your pants underwear and shirt yay that it. not an skill based lifestyle anyone can do it. naked people thinking who cares that is some elite garbage. we should be welcoming everyone not try to weed out what an word is naked people. do people pose for playboy are they naked people. do people do nude posing for art they most be naked people.
now in this room an lot o you are not gamers probably dont care about what valve is doing with steam os. or why nintendo wii u is not selling great. gaming takes skill. being an nudist takes guts. one is harder then the other we make being an nudist so hard let not let make it easy instead of making it in to something it is not.

you know i think people playing tablet games are not real gamers. and they call them selves gamers becouse they play candy crush. there gamers if they game on an tablet ps4 xbox one ipod iphone there gamers. people i keep saying this if poeple want to be exabitonist i know not the site let them stop this who is an nudist or aint i for one i am an gamer i have showed way too many people my penis. so does that make me an nudist is it how many times i showed someone my penis. i did not swing it around or anything just me naked. gamers dont go on witch hunts becouse people game on there tablets there is not an lot nudist then gamers be happy people come here to be nude and stop naked fake or naked real homie dont play that game just be naked.

This is how I distinguish being naked and being nude. If its a warm sunny day and I'm sitting by the pool and I'm not wearing any clothes; then I'm nude. If it's freezing cold and I'm up to my butt in snow and not wearing any clothes; then I'm naked.

As I read through the responses to the question/topic, I can't help but think; therein lies the problem with labels. Our society seems to think if you label someone or an activity/lifestyle, you can generalize about it or them in the entirety. Perhaps we need to stop thinking in the box and start thinking outside of the box!

I actually began giving this topic some deep meaningful thought today as well. The best I've come up with so far is a different question: "Are we nudists or just VERY well behaved exhibitionists and voyeurs?"

I often answer these questions with the general remark that everyone is entitled to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.....as long as it does not infringe upon other's right to the same."

For me, my practice of nudism is basically things I would normally do only naked. But also where it is legally and socially acceptable to be naked. And even when it is legal and socially acceptable to be naked, one must abide by the rules and social etiquette of the location where they are nude.

I'm not sure if there is a clear answer to this question.

It really all depends on what the words "nudist", "naturist", "nude" and "naked" mean to you.

for me personally I find I am a home/ closet nudist/ naturist. My reasoning behind that is because I first and foremost prefer to be completely nude. I enjoy the freedom of being clothes free and I find myself nude whenever I can be. At this moment I'm not sure if I'm a nudist or naturist. From looking up definitions of the two it seems I'm a little of both. I like being nude/ naked but am only that way when I can be, but I would like to live that way if it were possible. I say I'm a home or closet nudist because I'm mostly naked/ nude in the confines of my home rather than a social setting. Also, there are only a select few friends that know about my interest in non sexual nudity.

I think naked and nude are one and the same when it comes to any definition of the word. They both mean the same thing, without clothes on. Just like, what is the difference between a car and an automobile, a pig and a swine, a horse and an equine, a bird and a fowl, a pistol and a hand gun, water and H2O, a nation and a country? Aren't these all examples of different words for the same thing? So you could be a nudist or a nakedist, and still be the same thing, just depends on how you want to say it. I don't see any real distinctive difference between the two words, nude and naked. They both mean basically the same thing, and can be used interchangeably. So what's the difference between being nude or naked? Nothing.

I know in New York (Times Sq) there is a fellow which goes by the name, "The Naked Cowboy". Yes he does have the cowboy boots and hat and carries a guitar but he also wears a pair of white Y-fronts with the words "Naked Cowboy" across his butt.
(MOH's comment btw was "Nice Guitar!")To me that isn't naked but is that just an American thing? Underwear only is considered naked? Certainly a Google search for naked videos come up with a lot of underwear-clothed people.
I think nude in the US is therefore completely unclothed. Perhaps I'm wrong.
In the UK, naked is used for the more "sensationalist" newspapers (for sexual escapades) and nude is used for the real non-sexual nudists, who simply prefer to wear no clothes.
