Dead groups

  It is my belief that people join groups in order to have another list of things on their profile that interest them.  A lot of groups aren't active because most people spend their time talking here in the regular forums.  :)  Most people probably think of groups as another interest section on their profile.

The Nude Photography & Graphics Group was created expressly to be a useful outlet for photographers and artists to display their work and share ideas. While not as active as we would like, the moderator Bxnanude and I make regular regular posts to stimulate activity. Other members have responded by posting on occasion.   The group is growing steadily and we welcome all new members who wish to be active.http://www.truenudists.com/group/2122/

Other members have responded by posting on occasion.   The group is growing steadily and we welcome all new members who wish to be active.http://www.truenudists.com/group/2122/[/quote]   On other sites I've seen group moderators take another approach to stimulate activity . . . . . remove the lurkers who don't contribute.   Two things that a frustrating are groups with dozens of members but only a small few are contributing (almost like they're having a private conversation that the rest of the world is listening to)  . . . . . . second, groups with hundreds of members and no one is contributing (kind of like the web sites that bost thousands of members because they don't allow members to delete their accounts when they don't find the site interesting).

"Safe" groups make nice profile trophy items.[/quote]  Some peopoe definately do that.  I got a friend request from someone with a blank profile even though I say I won't accept friends like that,  I looked to see what groups there were in and when I saw over a page of groups, I knew that that was not way to tell anything about them.

Usually these are the more questionable groups.

  It would be nice to have notification that a post has been made in a group that you are a part of in the same way we get notifications of new members joining that group. The only notification that anyone gets for any group, including becoming a certified member, is your name being broadcast. It is no wonder then why friend-collecting seems to have become the sport of choice around here.

I see no reason to delete them.[/quote]    You'd think though, that if people were that interested in their groups that they'd spend more time to maintain them. Introduce topics. Remove users who are distracting to the group's purpose.

  what i don't understand is why do people bother to start a group if they don't have any intentions of participating in the group. a group i joined is essentially dead. i am the only one that has made any posts, there has been quite a few people that have reviewed my posts but apparently were too busy to leave a response.

  The group Canadian Locations Index was started purely as a resource for those seeking a means of contacting Canadian resorts, clubs etc. I do check it daily to see if there have been any new submissions in the form of location reports or new locations which are not currently listed but it is not necessary to join the group to access the information. It was started because the main sites's locations function lists U.S. locations only. Philfree also has a group - Locations Home which lists other non-American locations. These groups are fairly inactive as their purpose is not mainly interactive discussion and it would be a loss if they were to be removed simply for non activity.

[/quote]   Some of the US locations are not in the listing plus at least one in the SC listing is no longer viable.  That's the reason I started the Carolinas (North & South) Location group.   I wish others would post their club activities there.
