On my final visit with Dr. L, she found a basil cell which had to be removed by a MOHS surgeon. The procedure went well and everything is fine so I did some reading on basil cells and discovered once you have had basil cell there is a 50-60% chance of getting another on your body. The cells are triggered by sun exposure. I further read other articles about what you should tell your dermatologist. The list included, parental history of basil cells, blistering sunburns and sun exposure. I also read in the Journal of American Dermatology about what are the parameters of a full body skin exam. Basically, once you have had a basil cell, the exam should be more through. Reason is, a basil cell found early and removed causes you no problem.
So I had a first visit with my new dermatologist, Dr. G., this Fall. Here's how it went.
I checked in with reception and was soon escorted to an exam room by a medical assistant. She asked all of the usual questions and took my blood pressure and temperature. I was instructed to removal everything except underpants. Then she handed me a gown and said I could "wear it or not...however you are comfortable" , and left the room. I stripped down to my boxers and debated on wearing the gown or not....then put on the gown, opened in the back, and sat in the exam chair.
In a minute or two there was a knock on the door and in came Dr. G. She was late 30's, long hair, fit build, dressed in scrubs. With an energetic voice she said, Hi Mr. Z, I'm Dr. G. She looked like she was smiling, but the dreaded covid mask covered half of her face. She checked the spot where the basil cell was removed and asked how the Mohs surgery went and said it has healed very nicely. Then she asked if I wanted a full body exam. I replied, yes and discussed my reading on once you have had a basil cell there is a 50-60% chance of getting another on your body. Also, how cells are triggered by sun exposure. I further mentioned other articles about what you should tell your dermatologist and then discussed parental history of basil cells, blistering sunburns and sun exposure. I also recapped the Journal of American Dermatology parameters of a more through full body skin exam once you have had a basil cell. Reason is, a basil cell found early and removed causes you no problem.
Then as my heart rate increased, I told Dr. G. I was a nudist. Told her my wife and I tan nude on our deck and also go to nude beaches. Without hesitation, she asked if I would like her to include the buttocks and genitals in the full body exam. I replied yes. She finished checking my face and neck then began my shoulders. I stated I did not need the gown and she agreed and removed it. She said some patients like to keep "covered up" and agreed the exam is easier for her without the gown. She finished my chest and asked me to lean forward in the exam chair so she could check my back. She then checked my arms, hands, legs and feet. Then Dr. G. asked me to stand with my back toward her and she lowered my boxers and checked my butt. She then said to turn and face her. Once again, Dr. G. lowered my boxers and checked all sides of my scrotum and penis. "You can pull up your boxers and have a seat in the exam chair". Dr. G. said I had a clean skin check. Needless to say, she did not miss a spot. But, good news....no basil cells. She suggested I come back in six months.
So the question is; have you told your Dermatologist you are a nudist?

I have 2, and I have told them both but without tan lines it was pretty self evident. The guy has me strip and just like wear the gown. He and his female assistant do the normal exam, then when she leaves, he had me drop the gown and does the rest.
The female doc has me strip to the boxers, no gown and does the exam. Then she has me drop the boxers and does a very through exam of the privates.
I have gone thru several docs until I have found those who will do something more than just a cursory exam.

The overall tan gives it away. Our derm doc grew up in France, so she probably thought nothing of it. Docs see everything, so they are never surprised.

nebr4200Dec 31, 2021Yes, both my PC and my Dermatologist knows that I'm a nudists and neither one cares. As a matter of fact when I told my dermatologist that I was a nudists she was very interested in that fact and started asking questions about local groups and where I liked to go and if I ever go to resorts. That was my first visit to her and hopefully we will discuss it more on my next one.

I put black swim briefs in my cargo shorts pocket and when I took my clothes off in the examination room, I slipped them on. When the doctor examined me, I reminded him that I swam and sunned nude so he knew that he should check everything. We talked about reason why some people swim and sun nude and other don't. That lead me to comment that some people don't wear underwear and how did that work since his staff always tells me to leave my underwear on. He replied that he has staff say that because he believes that is what most patients prefer but some patients are comfortable being nude for the exam and he has no problem with that. Been to the same skin specialist for a decade or more and last year had the BCC news - on my forehead and hiding in a childhood scar. Like you also had it removed MOHS procedure as it is directly over my optic nerve.
Interesting to note though, you don't need to literally expose your skin to the sun to get BCC or melanoma. Non-nudists are recorded as having occurrences in places where they don't get sun exposure too. In fact have had one removed from between my toes....!

I had already had one BCC and read changes of getting a second in high. So telling my dermatologist I was a nudist delivered the message I was comfortable being nude while she examined my skin. I don't have my next appointment till April.ReactReply

koala53Jan 13, 2022As far as my health is concerned, I tell everything that might be relavant to my health. Being clear about me being a nudist, is important and so is my sexual history if i'm in need of some advice about my body or how it works. i've asked for a regular prostate examination, and other sorts of checks I find out to be available. It is also important to ask what signs there might be if I do develope a prostate problem. Same with testicle cancers and everything else that can go wrong. I have had skin cancer and a major face operation to deal with it. When I'm with a nude partner, we'll inspect eachother for these things and if we find anything not looking good, we'll go and see a doctor and get it checked out. it isn't rocket s eience and simple common sense.

PaulJan 19, 2022I went to the dermatologist last year and I told them I was raised a nudist . so she examined my entire body , while the assistant looked on . the doctor rubbed my arms and legs so lightly . I got immediately hard ., no issues . so they want to see me again next year . I enjoy being looked at by pretty women . and am looking forward to next years appointment .

Hi All, I have my next dermatologist appointment in 3 weeks. It will be a full body exam. At the last appointment, six months ago, I told Dr G. I was a nudist (see the first post) so she suggested a check of my buttocks and genitals. Also, she suggested six month intervals between visits.
So I wonder if I should mention that I am a nudist again? Or just see what happens, Do you think dermatologists' make note that patient is nudist?

No real doctor would care if a patient is or is not a nudist. Real doctors have seen it all and know the human body from head to toe. There is nothing about the human body that should shock them. A real dermatologist is looking for skin cancer among other things. They should perform a complete body exam. If not then you can request this without any explanations about being a nudist. They should only care how you received your tan assuming that you have a tan. Tanning booths and salons can have very intense lights that can cause serous skin damage. very quickly - similar to intense solar Summer radiation. They should caution you about the harmful effects of UV light (sun or tanning salon) and how to protect with the proper SPF lotion. Skin cancer is no joke and no fun.

GilmourMar 17, 2022I was self-conscious when I went for my first annual physical check-up after I started manscaping, but I had decided if he had had a problem with it, the problem would have been his, not mine.... In the end, the doctor didn't blink an eye. I'm sure they've seen manscaped and shaved bodies by the multitude.

Doctor seemed totally comfortable, I felt better knowing that he has a full view of all of my skin, instead of having to look inside my underwear for part of it. - JIjillzeekerOriginal PosterApr 13, 2022So I just had my second appointment with my new dermatologist, Dr G. I had an odd shaped mole on my back that I wanted checked asap. Here is how it went.
After being escorted to the exam room and asked the usual medical questions, the doctors assistant asked if I was having a full body exam. I replied, yes, and said I had an odd shaped mole on my back that I wanted checked. She instructed me take everything off except the under pants. Here's a gown. As she walks to the door she states the doctor will be in shortly. I just get down to my boxers and there is a knock and the door opens. It's the assistant and she says. "Oh sorry to walk in while you are undressed, but I have to review you prescriptions." I stand there in my boxers and answer her question, then she leaves again.
So I put the gown on and sit on the exam table and begin to wonder if I'll have to, once again, tell Dr G that I am a nudist so she will include buttocks and genitals like last time. My mind goes round and round. There is a knock and in comes Dr G. We exchange the normal pleasantries and she say, "Full body exam like last time. Right?" I say yes and she begins to check my back so I removed the gown as I did last time. She checks arms, chest, front of the legs and feet. Then she sits on a stool, an asks me to stand so she can check the back of the legs and buttocks. I ask if I should just remove my boxers.(The last time she lowered my boxers,checked then lifted them up. Then had me turn and face her once again lowered my boxers, checked then asked me to pull them up.) She said, "If your comfortable it's OK with me." I removed the boxers. She checked the back of my legs and buttocks. Then asked me to face her while she put on gloves and then checked my genitals. "OK, you can cover up now and sit on the exam table so I can check you face and head." I put my boxers on and sat down.
She suggested the mole on my back be removed, just in case it is a basil cell. Dr G said her assistant will be in with the set up for mole removal. Then left promising to return in a minute. The assistant entered the room with items on a tray and said, "Good to see you again." I laughed while sitting there in my boxers and said she has seen almost as much of me as the doctor. Oh, I'm very sorry for coming in while you were undressing. I told her no worries, I'm not shy. She laughed and said, "If you want a good exam, you should not be shy." Dr G removed the mole and said enjoy summer, I'll see you in six months.
So Dr G must make notes regarding the extent of patients exam. Mine is truly "head to toe" because of the basal cells and being a nudist.ReactReply
