A pub in the Brecon Beacons had its Facebook page suspended, apparently as a result of its name.The Black Cock Inn has been in Llanfihangel Talyllyn for 175 years and its owners said they have never had a problem with its name until now.But Facebook banned the pub's page for racist or offensive language.Lee Garrett, the manager, told the Independent : This is a typical country pub. I know it's a rubbish name but it's been called that since 1840. It's a black cockerel, you know. There are a lot of pubs with the same name.Up the road there's a place called the Three Cocks and there's a lot of cock-based names in this area for some reason. I found it hilarious when I first moved here but that's just the kind of place it is.There is also a Black Cock Inn on the outskirts of Cardiff.

My local pub is called The Old Cock Inn. These old public house names have been around for hundreds of years and Facebook should grow up or shut up.

Sounds like an algorithm gone mad. My dad once wrote a book in which he referred to a person as black; the proofs came back with that reference changed to African-American. Fair enough; he was happy to conform to the publisher's then-current house style. But a later reference to a positive accounting balance was also changed, to "In the African-American."

When computer programs can really sort out "Time flies like an arrow" from "Fruit flies like a rotting banana", maybethenwe can trust them on this sort of problem.

[/quote]I get what you're saying, Steve, but this was not a computer picking out certain words. Apparently, some bored individual with nothing better to do, saw the pub name and reported it to Facebook.

FB may have deleted it for the word "black" but I am more likely to say it was the word "cock" and or the combination of the words. But FB tends to censor what people post with a heavy eraser. I think they watch the four letter words closely.

Face Book Racist?Errrrrâ€¦â€¦.I do not actually think that FB is Racist, his wife is Asian is she not?It is just a matter of being overly Politically Correct.The PC Police have struck again.They are all up in arms, about a few of our Professional Sports Teams, having names that they all figure are PC incorrect.The Washing Redskins have been around for everâ€¦as the Chicago Blackhawks have beenâ€¦â€¦the Florida Seminoles etc are all under the same attack by the PC Police.It just gets a little muchâ€¦..I am really surprised, that Bing Crosby Estate has not been sued over, suggesting or even singing about having a "WHITE" Christmas! lolHow the hell. did they ever get away with the Black Friday Sales, taking place after our Thanksgiving Day?PC has just gotten way to out of hand.Every thing that anyone says or suggests these days, is now labeled as being Racist!To the point, that I have had to stop telling people, that I am BLACKâ€¦.from the waste down.Yup we live in a PC world.If you have a quick look at the Forums, they are swamped with the PC Police trying to take over, each and every post or comment.Why would anyone expect Face Book to be any different ?

Do you remember the plane that carried the first atomic bomb? Col. Tibbets named it after his mother, Enola Gay. When the Smithsonian Museum was setting up a new display of the plane, someone changed the name to something more political correct than Gay.
What was politically incorrect with Black Cock? The Black or the Cock?

In 2003 the Enola Gay was put on display at the Air & Space Museum, Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia. The original painting of the words Enola Gay can still be seen on its side.
