When I first opened my 1LOVE page I wanted to only accept people I was actually interested in being friends with and then realized I have a few true, real friends & this place is just an outlet for "me" time so why not open up my page a bit more and see what happens... I may be surprised to find a friend I never would have first guessed.
Life is short....LIVE FULL!
Edit 9-22
Yeah, that didn't work... now I've got a ton of people I want to delete and do you know how much time it takes to delete each one? I learned my lesson... choose well!

- GAgator1Sep 10, 2013You are on the mark. Not just here, but for instance on FB...I got badgered into opening an account there about 5 years ago, have maybe sent 25 friend requests, but now have over 500...mostly former students. I was looking the other day, and there are names I don't even recognize.
Have a great day!

I have a friend and I do mean friend..... Cath and I have been friends for more than 20 years...we have only ever met twice in real life, and those two times have always been a Thelma & Louise moment lol......The word "friend" is over rated perhaps acquaintance is more appropriate, but not where Cath & I are concerned :) I know that Cath and I do not have to be in contact on a daily basis, we do not have to meet up on a weekly or even monthly basis, or yearly basis for that matter, what I do know is that after all these years we are and always will be there for each other when the going get's tough and trust me over 20 years it has gotten incredibly tough. We are meeting up again in March of 2014 for a trip to Thailand, and Cath being Cath and me being me it will be yet again a wonderful time together....That's what a friend is :)
ReactReply - BOBornAgainOriginal PosterSep 10, 2013Thank you for the responses... good to hear others experience and opinion. I too have made good friends online, people I've never met. Social media can be great when used well. Yep, I hear ya raven, right on. I'm learning to care less what anyone else thinks, if I know it's all good... GO FOR IT. Although my few intimate friends I do care to hear their opinion on deeper issues. Peace all...ReactReply
- DEDesertRatSep 10, 2013We have rather strict criteria for adding people to our Friends List. That is, we only have people who we know personally or individuals who we have a reasonably good chance of meeting personally.
There are several people who we would like to add to our Friends List, but we know there is little likelihood of ever meeting personally. 1LOVE1LIFE, the OP of this thread, is an example of such a person and there are several others who we regularly exchange ideas with in The Forum. We know that we will never meet these people but we can make virtual contact with them either by TN e-mail or through The Forum so they don't really need to be on our Friends List.ReactReply - JOJohnSep 10, 2013I agree that the use of "friend" is diluted in the way it is used here and on FB. But its just a term used in context so that does not worry me.
I also agree that "collecting" all comers as friends is really not the point (for me). For those that do, that's fine. There are many reasons why someone would want to do that.
That said, I have requested and accepted very many friends that I am not likely to ever meet in person. But I am sincerely interested in being connected to people, learning and sharing about our lives and being friends in the sense we can be there. Long ago, there were "pen pals." I have corresponded with several friends that I now feel very close to and appreciate their friendship. There are VERY many I have reached out to after friending and been ignored.
One of my objectives was to just learn from others how they enjoy naturism and to get a sense of belonging to others that might have the same like of being sans cloths. I must say I found that here and am grateful. I will also admit that it is just fun to see all the photos posted of everyone (ALL types, sizes, shapes, colors, orientations, etc) having fun in the nude. I took and posted my own to contribute to the sense of joyful community here. Of course, I also appreciate seeing the many beautiful men and women as well (I'm human after all).
So all of you on my friend list, I meant it when I said let's stay in touch and get to know each other. Why else be here?

Maybe in addition to friends list we also need a strangers list for those friends we haven't met yet.ReactReply
- MAManOfWicklowSep 17, 2013We should have two lists. One should be for friends and the other should be for associates.ReactReply

I have a friend, a Friend, here on T.N. and in real life. Over the last 3 or so years we have met 3 times. There was a time of a year or so when I did'nt have a page here (formerly I was bakyrdndst) and we had no real contact. But last may or June I came back and he was the first person I looked for and found and "FRIENDED" ! Two weeks ago he was in town and treated me to an evening at a Korean/Russion style spa. Now don't get any funky ideas... I am divorcing and he is happily married to a woman ,and a beutiful profile photo do they have. Two dudes shootin the shit at a public/pay for hottubbin sauna havin few hours. Nice

I agree, the word is diluted. I didn't watch it but there was a movie a few years ago about a young woman who traveled across the US to meet all of her "friends". I can only guess it was awkward for many. I try to be judicious when managing facebook friends, but it still gets me into trouble. I'd prefer to see terms like 'contacts' or maybe something as strong as 'buddies' or 'pals'.
