Groups: Quantity vs. Profiles shown

Why is it that when you see a group, it shows a number of members but when you go into the group itself the actual number of profiles may be far less.?  Not the end of the world, but just curious

    I raised this very question two weeks ago in a group I belong to. There are 68 "phantom" members. The group was showing 248 members yet only 180 profiles actually show.

    It's caused by a group creator who has set his group up for approval and then not approving or denying members. It's also caused when a member leaves the site or has their profile removed - if they didn't quit the group first, the system still registers them as being a member of the group even though their profile no longer exists.
