Gerry-4Jan 16, 2010It takes awhile for some of us to understand that adding friends isn't necessarily the most useful function of this site, and that it's always best to wait and see who you'd like to correspond with most regularly. I was one of those for a while, and now only add people rarely. There are perhaps only ten people whom I could call regulars of mine, and they aren't all on my friends list. Still, it's a great way to reach a lot of people at once with news that won't necessarily interest EVERYbody.

gator1Jan 16, 2010I have about 10 requests from single guys that I have just completely ignored because 1) there was not message introducing themselves, and 2) the nature and type of information/photos and especially friends characteristics on their profiles. I want to think I am connecting with a like minded real person who would have a real interest in me, not just in looking at pictures of my gorgeous self!

scnudistJan 16, 2010First off, welcome to the site.
Some people actually feel more welcomed when they join and receive friends requests. Myself for instance, when I first joined months ago, I would have been less likely to return if I hadn't been greeted so friendly. With that being said, it is a good idea to send messages with friend invites, especially if you haven't spoken before, just to explain why you offered the invitation.ReactReply - PH
PhilfreeeukJan 16, 2010There's a thread on handling friend requests, I'll try and find it later.
