    Went shopping without my pants on. I don't wear underwear if it is a warm day.

    I wear shorts without pants . Pants are underwear in the UK.

Sort of like when we're in Australia and we saw a sign in a restaurant lobby that said men wearing thongs were allowed in the bar, but not the dining room. I was puzzled until our nephew told us that it was referring to footwear, not swimsuits or underwear.
