Aug 14, 2012If the city you lived in or lived near, granted organizers a permit for a Nude Pride Parade, would you attend or participate?

renebbareAug 14, 2012Probably not, unless my gay friends asked me too.
I don't find them particularly entertaining and certainly I would prefer to stand up and be counted, where it will actually do some good.ReactReply - RE
renebbareAug 14, 2012Raven, I understood, and unless asked to join in, would probably not do so. I am a straight male with many gay friends and if they asked me and/or my partner to join, in order to present a united front, then I/we would do. I say this because most gays are happier within their public nudity than the straights.
I can't help thinking that if more nudists stood up for nudist ideals and put in time working for nudism rather than marching for publicity "we" would be much further down the track in terms of public acceptance.
This is not the thread to air those ideas, but lets see who, why and more importantly, how other posters here feel on participating.ReactReply - MA
ManOfWicklowAug 14, 2012It would depend on who the organisers were, and their reasons for doing it.ReactReply - MEMemberAug 14, 2012I wouldn't. I tend to agree with Rene. I think it would be less than productive to participate in, or attend, such a parade. Pride type parades tend to attract participants with their own agenda. And it would be more of a novelty, more than likely, for the general public. "Hey, let's go look at the naked people parading down Main Street".ReactReply
- MEMemberAug 14, 2012
Maybe you need to change it to a 'Happy to be Nude in Public' March
Agree. But, I agree with other posters who say that a parade to promote nudism would probably be less than helpful for many of the reasons mentioned. But perhaps an event that had another specific activity as its centerpiece but where all the participants were nude would be a better idea. Like a mass nude hike. I know there are naked bike rides and 5k runs. If someone organized one of those type events nearby I'd be more inclined to consider attending.ReactReply

It is a sanctioned event, in as much as the city of Los Angeles knows it will happen, but very little public notice is given. The effect, is getting attention for man's consumption of oil. To protest naked does get the attention of those who would otherwise not pay attention to the message. To have a Parade of Nude Pride, much notice would be given, and those who wanted to participate or to see what is was about, would have have ample opportunity to plan to be there....or avoid it all together. Like a Nude Beach, it would not be something you would stumble upon by accident. San Francisco comes to mind with the Bay to Breakers Run. At this point, in the history of the run, there is always a contingent that runs it nude, it is sort of expected.
Perhaps a Nude Fair! It could be set up in a High School Stadium or some other location, that wasn't quite so public. Different sub groups could be there, such as naked hikers, runners, gourmet cooks, wine tasters, sewing clubs, Christian, Pagan, etc..emphasis on clean social nudism. The idea being, to get it off that "dirty little stretch of beach" or out from "behind that fence" and into the public eye.ReactReply - MT
Mike TaylorAug 14, 2012How about instead of a parade just a legal day where anyone can be nude anywhere doing thier own thing without being bothered by police. LEGAL NUDE DAY. Make it national so local laws don't apply. That way it's not a gimmic-protest or any thing else just a day where people might see nudests as regular people.ReactReply - RE
renebbareAug 14, 2012
Maybe you need to change it to a 'Happy to be Nude in Public' March, Raven. I can't see how it is rubbing anything in anyone's face- we're all nude under our clothes.
It is very true we are all nude under our clothes - but the majority of people out there don't want to see themselves, let alone others, nude. Do you really believe that 'rubbing their noses in nudism' will engender their goodwill?
And before anyone starts on about 'rights' let us stick to whether a 'Nude Pride March/Day' would be good for our movement and if you would attend.ReactReply - SO
SoupieAug 14, 2012Did you really believe that the civil rights movement and rubbing people's noses in "blackness" would engender good will? No, it would only have encouraged more negative feelings in white people.
ReactReply - MEMemberAug 15, 2012
I wonder- is a St Patrick's Day Parade seen as rubbing everyone's nose in being Irish?
There's nothing terribly controversial about being a happy Irishman. I think that's the difference.ReactReply
- MEMemberAug 15, 2012
I wonder- is a St Patrick's Day Parade seen as rubbing everyone's nose in being Irish?
The difference is public perception. Not everyone is accepting of public nudity. And, as has been mentioned, a nude parade could very well attract those with a different agenda... an agenda that could set nudism back, rather than moving it forward.
Best to work quietly to advance nudism, than be "in your face".

TNAKEDAug 15, 2012I woud definatly join in. In San Francisco it is not illegal to be naked in public. The key factor is "Nude not Lewd"
The most common neighborhood is Castro. It's great to sit around and enjoy the day there naked.ReactReply - DE
Not very likely. I'm a nudist not an exhibitionist. What would be the purpose of such an endeavor? If it was to promote new, nudist friendly laws, then I might participate. I have pride in who I am but I don't need to flaunt it to enhance my feeling of well being.ReactReply - BN
Bill NescAug 15, 2012
The phrase, "Pride Parade", evokes images of sordid displays of contempt for public decency, decorum and respect. IAC, as others have pointed out, shock value is counterproductive to public understanding. Nudists are already almost universally dismissed or detested as loathsome, exhibitionistic perverts. This sort of event would only affirm that misconception.
Count me out.
Really NudeinMA? Too bad you detest yourself so much. The World Naked Bike Rides, Bare to Breakers, and Seattle Soltice festivals go off OK without many people thinking about all the negatives you are spewing.ReactReply - BN

Every notice that there are twits who pollute every thread with personal attacks? I am pleased to be the focus of their hatred, because it distracts them from spewing their bile against others.

The best idea would be to organise the event in Europe- far less eyelids would be batted here for sure!
On St Patrick's day at the parades what are they parading for? I always thought it was a celebration fundraising event - I enjoy the drinking too.ReactReply - RE
As I understand the World Naked Bike Rides are to bring peoples attention to 'energy abuse' and uses nudity to bring this to people attention. The Seattle Solstice is an arts festival to raise money and attention for the town, why nudism is involved I suspect could be to assist the fundraising?
Only the Bare to Breakers run is solely to bring attention to nudism?ReactReply - BN
