What are the myths that people who are not nudists believe about nudism?

More than one person has told me I'm just a sexual deviant and I just like playing with myself all day. More than once I've been asked if all we do is just sit around have sex all time cuz that's all they can see us doing while we're nude.

Most non-nudists cannot separate nudity from sex, so when they see a nudist they believe that person must be looking for sex.

It is true that many people associate nudity with sex - either because that's the only reason they get naked (except in a locked bathroom) or because of porn or the use of nudity to titillate in marketing. A woman in Blackpool organised a petition and demonstration against a BN nude swim for that reason, thinking children would be exposed to perverted activity. They just don't understand that nudists make a very clear distinction between nudity and sex. Each has its place - each in a different place. But once they accept that they wonder why we would want to wander around naked. They wouldn't dream of it! We must be weird! HE did an article on how the public see us last month. It was all about whether we are weird. When people ask me I find it hard to explain why I enjoy being naked - it's just in my make-up. I can respond by mentioning stamp collectors, train spotters, butterfly collectors, twitches - the list is endless of odd-ball activities. In UK law it isn't illegal to be naked in public, partly as a human right to express our lifestyle (likened to some minority religions). When I've been naked in a none CO place (usually on a nude hike) the people I meet think it a bit quirky but mostly accept it. Some will sayNice weather for thatorIt's a bit chilly for that.I overheard one couple we met on a mountainside sayI've read about that but never seen it before.
What are the myths that people who are not nudists believe about nudism?
I think the uneducated believe nudism equates to sex or perversion. While there are some on here who try to ruin it for the rest of us, the rest of us know that's not the case.

I think the biggest myth among non-nudists is that they (the non-nudists) don't like nudity. It may be sexually driven, especially at first, but they like to look if not be looked at. If there were not legal issues, I believe that a lot more men would work and play nude, especially if water is in the equation. We don't seem to have the body issues that women have, yet I guess that I will always find it strange that women will wear clothing that completely displays their size and shape ( yoga pants, sports bras and tops, and bikini swim suits) yet be unnerved about being nude.

It's weird because those folks seem to just have one thing on their mind so they assume the same of genuine nudist situation but truth is if you are thinking sex it is highly likely you get an erection especially if you are doing a non sexual activity

The truth was that the situation was so relaxed and friendly that it was never an issue
Unfortunately, we as nudists are our own worse enemies. .......
A lot of what you say is true. Naturists are people, and like all people there are all sorts. I do generally believe about naturism that it does * promote a healty *non-sexual* relaxed lifestyle * promote open, friendly, non-judgemental environments * is good for body image confidence * is welcoming and inclusive * all the other stuff that people say when promoting naturism And I must say that the few social experiences I've had do confirm this. However, there area lot of naturists who are also swingers, or is that swinger that are also naturists. Also, being naked does make sex easier, even if it doesn't necessarily make it more likely. In the UK at the moment we are fighting a real battle against "peado hunters" who are trying to ban all under 18's from naturist swims, and at the moment they seem to be winning. In the forum discussions I have said that we need to be careful that we don't present ourselves as whiter than white, angels on earth, or we're going to end up shooting ourselves in the foot.
Unfortunately, we as nudists are our own worse enemies. We tend to defend the nudist lifestyle to non nudists with myth.
I do agree with you in the sense that nudists often use "tenets" to defend nudism. And there's one for every hang-up. For sex it's: "Nudism is not about sex or being sexual." For body-acceptance it's: "No one will care what you look like" or "You'll be totally comfortable being naked before you know it." For "typical" nudist behavior it's "Nudists are the nicest people you'll ever meet" or "everyone will make you feel welcome." In some cases, depending where you are or whom you're around: it could all be totally true. In other situations: in could all be completely wrong. In my early "proselytizing" days, I was all about the "tenets." Then one day a friend looked at me sarcastically while I was defending nudism and told me I was being "full of s%^&." Because some of the accounts he had received from other people who had experienced social nudity were not quite as "rosy" as the picture I was painting. The accounts he had received had come from "swinger" resort visitors. That caused me to reevaluate using "tenets" to defend nudism. Because everything is relative to the nudist environment; and it's just not the same everywhere.

The number one concern I see from guys when discussing nudism is the idea that they would constantly have erections.
There are also contradictory myths. One says that nudists must all have great bodies and so they like to show off (this one I think is rather rare but does exist). The more common one is that all nudists are hideously ugly. This one only has grains of truth in it in as much as that if you are only exposed to nudity through nude models and such, then you think anyone who doesn't look like a model is ugly. Nudists come in al body shapes, just like regular people do.
As for those talking about nudist myths about nudists, yes there are a few of those. The idea that they are nicer and more understanding than "normal " people, I ahevn't found this to be true in general. Certainly they are less judgmental about what you body looks like, but other aspects of life they can be just as bad as anyone else.
