Is nudism as we knew it dying a lingering death?
Having been an outspoken advocate of nudism for many years, I’m sad to say that the answer is probably, yes
We see an ageing nudist population with little interest of the young to get involved. We hear of clubs losing their AANR status because they have set aside the principals of nudism in an effort to become profitable and we hear, time and time again of yet another closing of a traditionally nude or clothing optional beach.
Is it possible to slow the slow the demise of nudism in the US or possibly restore it to the healthy status enjoyed on the European  Continent?
In 1969 , then, President Nixon spoke of the “ Silent Majority”. For as long as I can remember even  the most enthusiastic nudists have been the “ Silent Minority....
Admittedly, there are many, for professional or social reasons, who can not “come out” as nudists. That said; by remaining silent about our recreational life, being a Secret society, so to speak, are we not reinforcing the belief of many that nudism is a shameful, immoral activity?
The general population has so many misconceptions about the nudist life that these misconceptions can only be countered by practicing nudists speaking out and giving an accurate picture of what nudism is really about. Only with an educated public is it possible for nudism to advance and oppressive laws repealed. It is not enough to speak out on this Forum to other nudists or would-be nudists, it is necessary for many to speak out in the print and electronic media and to friends and neighbors. Publicly wearing your Skinny Dip tee shirt proudly and giving straight forward answers to any questions which might arise.is a start.
Until nudists go from being the Silent Minority to becoming the “Vocal Minority”, I can only picture a further decline of nudism

coming from a younger one, i believe resorts and clubs could do things that would make nudism seem more inviting to a younger generation. However, I say that our biggist problem is the many misconceptions that textile people put on nudisim. I dont think we have to reach out to the people that are closet nudist, i feel we have to reach out to the people that think nudisim is wrong and shamefull. If we can make them understand that there is nothing wrong with it, perhaps they wouldnt raise their children the way they are being raised now. Maybe kids wouldnt be affraid to go to a resort for fear of someone they know finding out and thinking they are "lude". If they realized that no one cared or would think negatively of them i firmly believe this would change things alot. I personally do not care what people think because this is the life i have chosen and enjoy. I am constantly drilled with questions about nudisim and i do my best to give straight forward answers that represent all of us well. my two cents.
I think working to appeal to the interests and activities of the younger generations is a start, but I think they must also be convinced of the authenticity of the nudist life.  The twenty-something woman is accustomed to being objectifed and reduced to a centerfold.  What is she going to think when she is asked to come get naked at a club?  Especially when so many "nudist" sites include profiles with images of women spread out on beds, or when clubs have lingerie dances?  For every positive, authentic example of nudism, there are ten negative, inaccurate distortions. Additionally, I think there are specific personality types that find nudism appealing.  Most sixty year-olds think it's ridiculous, as do most twenty year-olds.  "You like video games, we got video games!" might be just as ineffective in attracting young people as "You like shuffleboard, we got shuffleboard!" is in attracting retirees.  Having a variety of activities helps, but so does saying the right words to the right people.
I cannot agree more, that it does no good to provide activities for those that are not going to show up and use them. On the other hand, it’s not practical to waste resources recruiting new visitors, of any age, unless they find something that they like and are inclined to return.    I have stated elsewhere on this Forum that AANR’s Guinness World Record Skinny Dip  is the best public relations effort which I have see in my  many years as a nudist. I have personally attended both of these events at the Whispering Pines Nudist Resort  and it was obvious from the tan lines or the  lack of any tan that many were not nudists but there only for the open house skinny dip.      Thanks to the well organized, friendly staff and volunteers, it appeared that everyone had a wonderful time.   It is unlikely that these “ cottontail nudists” would have been there were it not for the well publicized  event but its is likely that those who had an enjoyable day may return as the nudists of the future

Perhaps Nudism attracts an older audience for the same reason it almost always has. Older people do not have kids and in our society nudism and children is a difficult subject for many to bridge. Yes, it would perhaps be healthier if we could help kids have a better understanding of the human body in healthier ways. But most young people with kids simply aren't equipped to do it. That means more older people at resorts. Many of todays young parents may find their way to nude venues as their kids age as well. To change this we need to change the general impressions that most of the population has about nudism. But I doubt nudism is in trouble in a permanent way.

if we can not change we will die out. the younger generation have been born into a free world and can find more place to Hang out nude without going to clubs and resorts.
Also there is the stigma of Sex that can and does scare the young people off. Some think that you will fall pry to use older ones but education must be the key. For education is a two way street we must learn what the younger generation want and adapt accordingly

Is it any wonder it "could" die out???!
Those like me, are caught between the "predators" & people who are of the "swinger/exhibitionist" tendency, OR  you have the Christian mafia on the other side. BOTH side want to push THEIR weirdo beliefs onto the rest of us, & we have BOTH kinds on this very website. Which is EXACTLY why I cancelled my recurring membership. It was called "platinum" but you get EVERYTHING & more for free on here, unlike most other supposedly "nudist/naturist" web-sites I have ever been a short term member of.
Until we can kick BOTH the Religious nutters AND the Predators out of naturism, I will continue to be a "loner" type naturist, I am not one for the "up themselves" types who run nudist clubs so will make my own friends as and where I can, and continue to live by my own naturist belief system.

No wonder young people do not want to join in the established nudist groups. The constant wingeing, complaining, use of exagerated names and continual moanin on this site is enough to put any sensible youg person off

Where has the joy of nudism/naturism gone. Wake up guys and gals

I see no evidence of it here on this side of the pond.

I see no evidence of it here on this side of the pond.
Don't you know that Christians are the source of all EEEEE-vill in the world, and that every trace of opposition to nudism comes from those "mafiosi" — well, except for the opposition to nudism found in the non-Christian parts of the world, but one mustn't speak of that.
Funny how many prodominantly Christian nations contain some of the most liberal (no pun intended) laws concerning public nudity. A fact lost on at least one Scotland native. But why let facts ruin a good rant?

I began this thread over five years ago and nothing has occurred to change my original opinion. A perfect example is a petition which was begun in May of 2011. This is a petition to establish a small CO beach in SC. I signed and posted a link here on TN. To date only 22 signatures. How can nudism survive if the nudists, themselves, are too lazy or too afraid to sign a simple petition which could benefit all of us?https://www.gopetition.com/petitions/help-us-fight-to-make-the-south-hook-of-folly-beach-cou.html

What your saying may be true for some areas, but I am a so called "young naturist". I also have a few friends that are interested, if not what you would call "home nudists". There are also ever growing Young Nudist groups. So ultimately I don't think its as bad as it may seem.
Also, nudism is a way of life...a state of being. I don't think its something that will just cease to exist. ^^
