General Discussion

Open Letter and gripe to those who mark their files "private" or all of their photos "friends only".

After 20 successful years in the military, and then 4 years working in Government, I understand when a person due to marriage or job is hesitant to show their face on this website. But photos can easily be cropped or faces blocked out when needed. But to blatantly assume that everyone is going to accept you without knowing what you look like is a very pretentious assumption. Guests and non-paying members can only see a limited number of photos on any profile, therefore at least leave some photos as 'public'. The serious nudists that are Paying members and Certified Members can see more or all of any given profile. After all, this is a nudist website, what do we have to hide?

This has been one of my pet peeves for over a year now on TN as well. I'm getting really annoyed when I get members viewing my profile and when I go to view their's its set to Private. To me that sends up red flags that its possibly a fake profile.

Andy, I do agree with your statement, and nudeingoodyear I also agree with what you are saying. I am not on TN to view naked bodies! Like Andy, I know the differences between men and women and don't need to keep looking at them. However, I do enjoy reading profiles to learn about other people on this site, and, if they have viewed my pictures, I will likely view theirs. What does upset me however, is the person that views my profile, looking at pictures or not, and when I go to do the same to them I have to ask to be a friend before I can learn anything about them. How can I be a friend without knowing ANYTHING about them? Block your pictures, I don't care, but at least complete your profile with a head shot, and allow me to see it. Then, after knowing a little bit about you, I may want to continue our relationship further and truly become a friend.

Agree with you Andy as usual. Unfortunately the site owners just don't do enough to manage the undesireables. They also don't resolve blatant errors/bugs. Don't even give the courtesy of a reply. So I no longer pay and that limits the value.

i find it amusing while in the chatroom and I see someone asking to PM with folks. Then I look at their profile and it is either totally blank or marked " private friends only" I won't chat with people like that. Anyone looking at mine can see me

as for the 'undesirables ' who troll here to get naked pics, shame on them and stupid on them. There are plenty of sites with a far greater percent of those 'perfect' nude bods to go searching in if you want porn.

I think I'm on record, someplace, as saying I'd be all for a Paid Members Only Chatroom on TN. At least I've thought it...:) The current open chatroom is nothing but trolls and drama queens and kings. Heck...I wish this site had a decent Messenger feature similar to what you find on Facebook. Maybe someday we'll have that in a future upgrade. I hate going off site to chat with somebody I hardly even know, so an onsite IM feature separate of the chatroom would be ideal for me.

@funcouple - Did you know you can change your profile name? It's under settings/account, and is as simple as typing in a new one. (People who are certified have locked in their usernames and would have to re-certify, but you're not in that position.)

For myself, I have zero interest in seeing headless bodies, and take the fact that someone has posted one to indicate a misunderstanding, subtle or gross, of social nudism. I'd frankly rather interact with someone with no picture at all who has said meaningful things in posts and in their profile, than with someone who is represented mostly by a torso.

Face pics are nice, don't attract pervs, and are harmless if stolen. I recommend them to all but the most constrained and cautious.

For the time being, I'm a "paid" member because I posted an adverstisement on Tumblr inviting folks to check out TN. So I suspect I can see your pictures. I have no idea how long this temporary full membership will last.

But yes, when not so favored with full member, I can only see a limited number of pictures. They also wiped out my status and now consider me "textile" even though I have posted hundreds (maybe 1K+ posts and otherwise contributed the best I can. Not so much lately.
I've never put any weight behind those status banners. There are a few here that have amassed over 10,000 posts, most of them playing some silly games, and have contributed nothing but negativity to naturism. These so called Super Nudists are nothing of the sort and like to puff up their chests. Their status of Super Nudist is a joke. The content of a real nudist posting now and then of their experiences, their travels and their real nudist opinions matter so much more!
Man, I wish TN had a "like" button!
I would like to be able to set our profiles or photos to automaticly block private profiles.
Mcdcvs - you do know you can set each of your pics to different access, four different - public, friends, certified and certified friends. Yes, private and friends only pic media is very annoying but it's not for us to be telling others how they can be members of this site as we each can set our access to our profile and media to what fits our needs. If you don't want others to see your pics, you have choice of three different levels besides public. I don't mind private profiles viewing my profile or even my media (pics) as those individuals wont see much and they will read in my profile how I will accept friend request. They wont see anything that I'd be ashamed of others seen. Yes it would be nice to have a setting that 'private and/or 'friends only' media profiles be blocked from getting my profile but till then I'll work with the individual media settings I am given.

That would be a good addition if a person doesnt want anything about them viewed then thy shouldnt be able to view anything. Kinda defeats the purpose of social media site.

I don't care if people see my naked body or a photo there of. I mark some photos friends only just to reduce the likelihood of a troll downloading the image for it's own use. I know I can't totally prevent it but it's a balance between having the photo out there and having some control over it's circulation.
I never friend someone with a private profile and hidden pictures. There are lots of cool folks out there that I can interact with even with those restrictions. Merry Christmas to all.

I also dont mind people seeing my profile or my media. I respect that a member can have any kind of profile they want and the need to keep some information private, however I should be able to globally block profiles set to levels I choose. It feel like i am on display and people are outside the fence peering at me through the holes. I can hear them and know that they are looking but cant see who they are and why they are looking. What I am advocating is to fill the holes. We can talk through the fence but we just cant see each other.
I respectfully disagree! This is NOT a nudist website. Many nudists happen to be members here but you must admit that there are many, many undesirables that join here for the sole purpose of seeking nude photos to look at, steal pictures, are gawkers, trolls, pervs and they are not nudists!
When it comes down to it this is the real issue

You make the assumption that these settings actually work, and I believe at the moment they do. But for well over a year, they didn't. Media marked certified only was viewable by everyone. Only recently, was a coding bug fixed that allowed many media files to be viewed regardless of settings. This site is still full of security issues, including the fact that the media server does not authenticate users properly. This is why all of my identifiable nude photos have been removed, and will not be restored until these issues are resolved, which I suspect will be never. There is also the issue that deleted media isn't really deleted. The only thing that gets removed is the link to the media on the media server. The actual image/video is still intact and accessible.

During my limited testing after the last "upgrade", I did identify an issue (among many) to TT2 where a non-accessible media file was being logged as "viewed" when it really wasn't. I don't remember the particulars of what the circumstances where, but I did report is as a bug. That being said, there are many actual troubling security issues that have yet to be resolved. I just tested the issue again, and it is still broke. If a user views an accessible media file, then clicks on the forward arrow to the next media file which happens to be restricted, it shows as being "viewed", but they are really kicked out back to the media icon view page.

I was informed by member/friend that only 6 of my 8 posted pictures are viewable. TN Management has a notice on the last 2. "Upgrade To View" I did not restrict viewing my pictures, management did.

They shouldn't be able to view any media, should be restricted to read only on the forums and groups, and even that should be restricted to just a handful. They definitely shouldn't be able to post, and shouldn't be able to upload media. Non-paid accounts should be deleted after 30 days. I know many will disagree claiming the site will suffer input, but as I said, it costs money to maintain the site. No free rides. John aka cobeachbum
