To start on a light note, at least my mother does not have my AANR card.  I had it in my car and after transporting my aging Mother someplace the card was missing.   She had her shopping list laying near it and I first thought that she managed to pick both upby mistake but later I found it tucked in the CD compartment.    So Mom is not a card carrying member of a nudist club.
On a more serious note,  Mom has dementia and one of the things  that I have noticed is her decreased lack of modesty. When we stop by to pick her up she is often still in her night gown.   She will go in the bathroom and not shut the door, even to sit on the toilet.  Also when she goes into her bedroom to put on real clothes which she can do without helpshe does not close the door.    I try to stay where I can still chat with her but not see her
Even though I am totally comfortable with  nudity  around friends , casual acquaintances and total strangers and I joke with my grown siblings about being a nudist,  I find this lack of modesty with my own Mother uncomfortable.   Does that make sense?    Anyone else dealing with the contrary nudity comfort level  between a parent ?
thanks for the input.

My best friend is pro-nudism.  His Mom has advanced Alzheimer's, and he's her caretaker.  He bathes her, feeds her, changes her, etc...  He's used to it now, but he told me that seeing her nude was practically unbearable for him at first.  I think more than the nudity itself, it is the circumstances surrounding the nudity that can be emotionally distressing.  A seasoned nudist might be able to handle it a little better; but it's still probably going to be challenging.

When you do it, when you remove your clothing to be nude or perform activities in the nude, you do it with intent(by choice) and with knowledge(full mental faculties) of what you're doing.

You know your mother better than anybody here. If your mom doesn't have her condition,  would she knowingly and willingly keep doors open while changing or using the toilet?

I believe that it is natural for people, as they grow older, to care less about superficial issues such as "modesty". When most of your life is behind you, you concern yourself with more important matters. You realize that being seen naked is a non-issue.

Since everyone in our society uses the toilet, what difference does it make if you are seen while using the toilet? I'll never understand why people have the need for privacy while using the toilet. It's a good thing that our dogs don't have this need.
