I am starting to have mixed feelings about Profiles being listed as "Private," especially new certified members. I can accept people posting pics which are viewable by friends only. However, I do check the main page each day and welcome all the new certified people. The profiles give me an insight into each person's or couple's life and I can then address them appropriately. I am not in the practice of asking people to be my friend but do like to communicate and welcome those that are new. While I have 109 friends listed, I have never asked anyone with the exception of maybe 2 to be my friend. Most of my friends have asked me based on the information posted on my profile. We should be able to trust each other as nudists and allow the community to get to kow us, even if it is just limted information posted.
Just my thoughts. Thanks for reading.

catbirdJan 27, 2009How can I know whether our interests are similar, if there is no information available about them? If the profile is private, then I can't ask them to be my friend? How about other would be friends of the private profile?
As nudists, there is an element of trust, to keep the information confidential.
As for private photos, that's no problem.ReactReply - MEMemberJan 27, 2009
With the recent outcry for better privacy protection following the share bar and some picture issues TT1 put in the option to mark your profile private in what I believe was an effort to find some way of pleasing everyone. Well, pleasing everyone certainly isn't possible but at least he's making an effort. So now there's the private profiles. I have a feeling that a lot of the people who use that option may decide at some point to get rid of it when they realize that it limits them a great amount. Then there are the folks who probably enjoy the attention that comes with the steady flow of friend requests by people who just want to see what's behind the closed doors. I know I got way more friend requests after I set my pictures to be viewable by friends only and those where mostly from folks who I had never spoken to. I suppose some people may mark their profiles as private and then loosen up a bit after they have gotten more comfortable here.

livelovelaughnudeJan 27, 2009Hey Steve,
Even though I have not introduced my self to you , I have to admit that I would love to see the full size photo of the thumbnail (with all the colors ) that adorns your profile. So, that would put me into a precarious position : I would almost like to ask to be your friend just out of curiosity but don't think that my artistic curiosity should be induliged . I read all the thoughtful suggestions that you put on this discussion group . Are you a lawyer ? HA HA

Thanks Ken, I'm glad you enjoy my posts and no I'm not a lawyer LOL. I like to try and view subjects from both sides of the discussion before I formulate my response. At least I like to think that I can do that anyway. Doesn't always work out so well and admittedly some of my posts can be a bit over the edge on occasion. The profile pic that I have up at the moment is Homer Simpson in his underware jumping on the couch with the obligatory donuts and beer cans. I suppose I could mark that one viewable LOL. Enjoy

Paul VoglerFeb 1, 2009Yeah, it was kind of interesting to me that the people who wanted private profiles the most were the ones who adamantly declare they won't accept friends who don't have a filled out profile! And it's all kind of moot anyway, this is the internet, you don't know who anyone is. I would bet that just about everybody has somebody on their friends list who isn't quite who they say they are. It's the nature of the beast. RELAX! Take a few deep breaths, get naked, and have a good time!

gator1Feb 1, 2009I logged out and googled my profile, and went immediately to my page. However, since I have all photos of my face and body set to be seen by friends and true nudists, only info available was my written info about myself. I felt a lot better about that!

nudistbicplFeb 1, 2009Nothing wrong with making every photo "for friends only". But at least you can see some basic information to help you make an informed choice if you want to add someone as a friend....

You can see the basic information and a few photos. We've had "Friend" requests from a number of people that we denied because there is no way to see anything about them on their "Private" profile.
I, like you, won't approve a friend request if there's no information about them. I don't necessarily expect to see nude photos of the potential friend, however, before making a decision. Their participation on the board, attitudes, interests, married, etc are more important to me by a long shot. I prefer to find kindred spirits.ReactReply - NU
nudistbicplFeb 1, 2009Photo or no photo, that's not the point. The one thing that we live by as nudists in not to judge anyone by the way they look. Keep your picutes private if you like, but atleast have some basic information about yourself, your location and who you want to meet.
We honstly could care less if we see your picture or not when we grant a "friend request".ReactReply - GA

How can you request to be someone's "friend" if there is no info available to base compatability on? Profile info is a great conversation starter, frankly the only real conversation starter... Paul VoglerFeb 2, 2009Okay, maybe you've got the google thing to worry about, although really, what are the odds of someone you know googling your member name? When was the last time someone decided to google "dancingnakeddj" or "fatnudist" or "cuddlebutton"? The odds are pretty astronomical unless you use your real name for your ID. There's probably more chance that someone you know would sign up on this sight to see what all the nudists do and bust you that way. If I had a job that I could lose by being on this site, I wouldn't be on here, there's no real privacy on the internet.

A new issue with private profiles that I've run across. In the groups that I moderate here one of the rules is that prospective members must have at least some information about themselves in their profiles. So now I have people applying for membership with their profiles marked as private. The reason I set that rule was to try an weed out the lurkers and what not. Private profiles kind of make that job a bit harder.

catbirdFeb 2, 2009I once found that with my user name of "catbird" Google can indeed turn up my profile; however it is way down at page 44. "Catbird" is of more interest to naturalists, not naturists. I also found that my photos are not accessible, except the profile photo.
For curiosity I also googled my real name. That didn't turn up my profile, at all. That did turn up other things about me, but nothing relevant to nudism. That did turn up a web site that I created for an entirely different purpose (Christianity).ReactReply - GA
Lol, it was probably not the smartest thing I've done, but I have used the same id on other (non-nude) sites, so there is a possibility that someone might google it. I think maybe I need to use other names when I join other sites. Oh, and when I googled the profile name, it showed up on page one.ReactReply - MEMemberFeb 3, 2009
In a perfect world, we all could be just be open and not have to worry about anyone taking advantage of us, but "let's be real", there are way too many jerks and deviants. I've actually quit searching profiles for friends quite some time ago. To me, what's the use. That may (if they filled it out) tell you a little bit about the person/people, but not who they are. Through reading posts, and talking in chat, I can get a better idea of who I get along with. Keeping the profiles private, is to protect against lurkers, but I'm in agreement with many others. Keep your pics private, but at least give people something to read, if you want friends that is.
In total agreement with this statement. JenReactReply
