I don't know if this has been discussed here before or not.
Every member on this site needs to Google their profile name. You'll be shocked at what you'll find. And with many, many, empoloyers doing Google searches on potential employees, who knows how many problems the Google information may create.

Of course any search engine will find most any place your username is used. But you have fairly good control of whether your username has ANY connection with your real name.
Keep at least two web based email addresses (yahoo, google, hotmail....)
1 - your.real.name @ email.company for resumes and networking.
2 - gibberish @ email.company for anything else that you would not want you boss or future employer to see.Never Never NEVER associate the gibberish address with you real name in any post on any site or service. and never associate your real name with anything controversial.
Try searching for your real name. Is there anything that shows up with your username? Then try searching your real name and username together. This would be a real problem.

This is certainly another timely reminder, for those that need it, to err on the side of caution.

ocmickAug 20, 2011This is the only place I use this profile name...it certainly isn't common knowledge at my place of employment or anywhere else for that matter so why is it a problem again?

Paul VoglerAug 20, 2011C'mon people! This is getting ridiculous! The only relevent search is your REAL NAME. Google that and see if any TN stuff comes up! I don't think there's much chance of my potential employer searching "fatnudist".
