  Yes. There is a TN couple, AzNudist65, who reports that they live completely off the grid. They live in Arizona about half way between Gila Bend and Yuma. If you look on a map you won't see many things out there so it might have made living off the grid more of a necessity rather than a choice.

  Yes. Many people on this island do - including our next-door neighbors, who found that running a line of poles a few hundred feet to their property was more expensive than installing a full-on standalone photoelectric system. The electric grid may be obsolescing the way landline phones are - the infrastructure gets more expensive as the alternatives get cheaper. People another couple of miles away also do without piped or pumped water, and rely on roof catchment.

  There are millions of people around the globe that live off the grid. As did our ancestors. There were no TV sets or GPS on those covered wagons.

  Many people live off the grid in the non urban areas of Australia using photovoltaic / battery backup systems with wind and diesel generators for the less sunny days.
  Battery backup give the added advantage of power available when its cloudy or dark.
  However in Australia, government incentive grants enable anybody to install photovoltaic systems that are synced with the grid and any excess power generated and not used on site is sold back to the grid thus reducing the households utility companies power bill.
  The advantage with this is you don't need a backup system to provide power when there is no sun.

  Thank you for the responses.  I did not mean literally living off the grid in terms of electricity... I meant unrecorded, untraceable... with satellite and big brother watching over... is it possible?   And if so does anyone one have premium land, near the equator that's off the grid and inexpensive (or willing to rent cheap) with a fresh artisan well bubbling into a beautiful swimming hole so I can float nude daily? and good soil so I'm able to grow my own food... and maybe not too far from a good TN neighbor as I like to socialize occasionally.  :D  I laugh but I'm serious... I WOULD LOVE!!!

  If by what you mean unrecorded, untraceable... with satellite and big brother watching over... is it possible?  i guess you would need a big mattress to hide all your cash in or sitting on a goldmine to pay for the rent as using a bank would blow your cover.
  However your Idea of a tropical island"with a fresh artisan well bubbling into a beautiful swimming hole so I can float nude daily? and good soil to grow ones own food"  is a great idea,  lets know when you find it .. I will book in as your neighbour.
