Just came across a forum response that suggested the reason that people go to clothing optional or nudist/ naturist venues is to see naked people. That is so distant from my experience. I don't go to SEE naked people I go so I can BE clothes free and see people who I know or enjoy spending time with. I choose the people I see there not because they are naked but because would like spending time with those them whether they are clothed or not. We just share the common preference to BE clothes free.

Naturists at venues don't want to be ogled or stared at. This is a common misconception. One of the first rules of social nudism is don't stare. Women are made to feel objectified and diminished when guys take this approach and cast surreptitious glances. Look people in the eyes instead.

So do you go to clothes free venues? To SEE naked bodies or simply to BE clothes free

I never go anywhere, so I see naked people. I'm going somewhere to be naked. My hope and desire is that being naked is as normal as being clothed. There is finally the side by side of naked and clothed.

The difference is: You actually 'get it'.

The reason to go to a resort IS to be nude and NOT to see nude people or be seen nude. However, this forum seems to be populated by a bunch of pervs who seem to come here to get their jollies. I just don't get why.

Anyway, as a TRUE nudist, you are visiting a nudist venue for the sole opportunity to relax or do sports or whatever while you are nude. The pervs who frequent this web forum seem to think it is an opportunity to see nude people or show off their genital jewelry. Sick.

I guess people with exhibitionist tendencies go to BE naked.
And people with voyeuristic tendencies go to SEE naked people.

I expect all the exhibitionists and voyeurs to disagree with my opinion.

I'm a person who enjoy my time clothes free and enjoy the ability to do so with others who have the same desire. Do enjoy being seen? Do you ask this question of clothed people? And their response? Do I go to look? Well heck, I look at clothed people all the time. How is looking at nude people different? I rarely stare at clothed people, unless something about them is unique. The same applies to nude people. As with all the population, some views are more pleasing and easier on the eyes than others.

I think true nudists go to be naked but they do enjoy seeing others. Seeing people who FEEL like me - free without their clothes and appreciative of all the differences there are amongst us even though we're all the same. I think is's a little bit of a lie to say that as nudists we don't see other people naked, and if that was true there's be absolutely no need for profile pictures and all of the media on this site. What nudist doesn't love the human form? I love not get naked alone either at home or in nature, but of course it's that much better when you're with others and yes, I see everything. I think the comment is too general - do you go to see people because you love the human form or are you going for voyeuristic reasons - there is a difference.

I think nudists need to stop saying how they never really recognize the other nudists they're with are naked....

Like the previous posters I go to enjoy the experience of being nude (Outdoors: hiking, swimming, gardening, etc. Indoors: socializing, eating, bowling, etc.). And the fact that I see other nude people there doesn't qualify as voyeurism.

I'm naked because I feel free when I am without clothing.
For example - I went for a naked swim this morning on the non-nudist beach in front of our hotel. I walked down there wrapped in only my towel to avoid offending anybody and removed my towel immediately before entering the water, leaving it a safe distance above the tide-line. I chose a discreet corner of the beach but was quite open in the way I entered and left the water, having ensured that I was not close enough to offend anybody.
I certainly didn't practice exhibitionism and I wasn't there to ogle naked bodies.

When I am on a nudist or clothing optional beach or resort I definitely look at other people just as I do when in town or anywhere else but this is a normal part of human behaviour and has no relationship with voyeurism.

I have no doubt that some people at nude venues are exhibitionists, voyeurs or both but I am equally sure that they are in the same minority as everywhere else.

If a man goes to a nudist resort just to see nude people and feed his lust, we know what happens. He's either going to be unwelcome or the lust is going to fade. And that is why I would go, so that I get so accustomed to seeing nude people it becomes nothing. Done as an anti lust inspiring thing. If one goes with a desire to be seen nude, that will fade as well after awhile as time passes and nude becomes so common place it stops being a unique thing. All that's left is the freedom, comfort, and ease of mind that comes with not caring who sees what, and knowing it doesn't matter and no one will be critical. Out in clothed society it's all too easy to be concerned about what we look like to others, can't really be ourself fully. I find the same freedom working alone nude in nature with firewood, biochar making and agriculture, but there's also much benefit in social interaction which I enjoy occasionally.

So I can't find any desire in myself to either see nude people, or to be seen nude, it's other aspects at work. Like the honest social element, and the feeling of freedom from clothing we share.

I do not care if I am seen while nude, but I am not one who seeks to attract attention. My only trip to a CO beach was for the experience of being nude in and out of the water. It would be very unusual for anyone to sit on their towel or blanket and just stare at the water and the movements of other people around you, whether clothed or not, attract attention. So I did observe others on the beach, some were clothed in conventional swimming attire, some women were only topless, and most men and women like myself were completely nude. Someone entering the area or going into or coming out of the water prompted people to look. I watched others move about and others watched me.

I enjoy being nude and the freedom i felt the first time in a social setting was intoxicating. Most of your life, most of us are told to hide our genitals from everyone. We go through painstaking methods to try and stay covered while also being comfortable. Being nude around others who don't care if your are covered or not is a feeling that I crave. I like to think that others feel the same way and they is why we go to nudist venues.

I am reminded of the dance my wife and I attended at MAR. She was wearing a sarong because she did not want to be fully nude. While dancing with one of the members, one of her boobs plopped out. In the textile world, she would have quickly covered up and retreat to the restroom to fix her wardrobe malfunction. At MAR, no one cared. She kept dancing and when the song was over, she put things back where she wanted them.

There is to me two meaning of the topic title as you could go to a nudist beach to see other nudist just like you enjoying been naked as you are and seeing you aren't the only one naked that day and, just going to look at the naked bodies which to me isn't been a nudist.

I see "political correctness" as a way to control others. Nothing else. When a snowflake gets "offended" (which they do easily), they are attempting to get the upper hand on you. Don't give it to them. When you know right from wrong, then stick to what is right and you will never go wrong.
I can completely see where everyone is coming from here. There DEFINATELY seem to be a huge number of people on this site who are just here to see your bits, and to some degree, i feel this is a normal impulse. Who isn't curious about other peoples bodies, it just becomes an issue when that's your main reason for being a nudist, or if you explore that curiosity with other people in a disrespectful way. My first experience at a nudist retreat was actually pretty negative because ALL of the other men there started making increasingly aggressive sexual passes at us. Both of us were new to social nudism, we were keeping to ourselves, and made a point to be off on our own. Men started doing things like blocking doorways we were trying to walk through while stroking their erections. My boyfriend and I went to the nudist retreat to lay in the sun and feel breezes against our skin, not be harassed. It was so unbelievably crappy, I dont think I will ever go back. I felt guilty for subjecting my boyfriend to that experience because it was my idea to go there in the first place. Now dont get me wrong, I'm not a prude. I have fun with my sexuality, and I dont feel bad or apologize for having a TrueSwingers page alongside my TrueNudist page. Sex is not bad, what is bad is inflicting yourself on others. I would never ever want to make another person feel threatened or harassed, the idea of that is repulsive. I've been to bathhouses and everything, and in that context, being approached by a stranger is appropriate, but not in a nudist setting. Not when your leering at people groping your erection staring them in the eye. Its not respectful. Your not giving the other person a choice in the matter. And its absolutely NOT nudism. On the other hand, in an ideal world, everybody could go to a nudist venue and go there to see naked people, be naked, and be seen naked by others. Being naked and having all your stuff on display is pretty vulnerable, and practicing vulnerability is a positive experience. Being able to psychologically condition yourself to not be afraid to be vulnerable is very important and healthy. If your a male, its really easy to see if your at a nudist venue with less than pure intentions, which is why I think there is such a stigma against erections. I havnt done much social nudism, but its really hard to want to get into it when there are so many other people who just want sex, and lead with that.
woofsa, So well said here. I had an equally bad and eerily similar first experience. I now refer to the guys you described as "the vultures" and warn any fit or young new comer that they will likely encounter this and to take a protective wingman (though that didn't seem to help in your case). I made the mistake of going alone. Never again.

Very well said Woofsa. Sorry you had such a negative experience. The mgmt at that resort have obviously tolerated lewd behavior for a while and done nothing about it. If you choose to visit another resort(s), my suggestion is to message group members from this site in advance to see what they've experienced, so you can narrow down your list of suitable resorts.

Can you share the name of the venue. Unfortunately there have recently been a few places that have cropped that say they are naturist or nudist but are really just fronts for "lifestyle" ie swinger activities.

I believe there is a huge difference between the two practices. Unfortunately as we North Americans tend to do with just about everything because of our sexual history we attach sexuality to nudism. The history of nudism in its modern form from Europe was all about over all physical health and social wellness.

I dont think kind of behavior you described would never be ignored at a genuine AANR or TNS sanctioned venue if it was observed or reported. It that reason I always recommend that first timers try to visit that kind of a venue.

Did you share your experience with the management or anyone in the front office?
