Skinbook has called it quits — General Discussion on True Nudists

Everyone that belonged to skinbook has received this message. h3"A message to all members of www.theskinbook.net/h3 It is with much regret that I have come to the decision to bring Skinbook to an end. After all the effort (and money) we have put into saving the Skinbook network; the complaining, negativity, abuse and general lack of support we have recieved from our users has been quite frankly, disgusting... I am no longer prepared to provide the Skinbook network to any members past or present. As much as we have attempted over the past couple of years to bring together the naturist community and give the naturist lifestyle a positive public image, the treatment of my team here at Skinbook has finally made it clear (to myself at least) why this lifestyle is both fragmented from within and ostracized from without. What you take this to mean is up to you to speculate individually. For me this revelation doesn't require an explination, it requires merely a reaction; my reaction being that from now on I see fit only tocompletelydistance myself from this lifestyle (from both a philosophical and physical stand point) and most certainly from ANY medium which serves to promote it. Good luck in your quests to find unity within your chosen lifestyle... you need it! It's sad to see skinbook come to an end. Yes, I agree with them, the nudist industry is a very difficult industry to make a living in. It is one of those industries where lots of people enjoy it, but are too cheap to support it. The nudist organizations like AANR, BN, and TNS should have 100's of thousands of members, yet they're struggling. Some people brag that they would NEVER pay to stay at a nudist resort because nudist resort owners just want your money, yet they spend $200 a night to stay at a textile hotel close to a "free" nude beach. And when you operate skinbook as a hobby as those people did, you can easily get burned out because people don't understand it is a hobby not a full time job. I wish those people that started it good luck. And after a while, I hope their bitterness towards nudism softens. MC

Skinbook is still continuing to thrive, and now has nearly 1,200 members on it. We've got some good discussions happening on the forums and the groups are now starting to take off as well. :)

Thanks, MC. It's an eye-opener. TANSTAAFL. (There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch.) Free websites aren't. Some think that TT1 is making kilobucks each month off of TN. He wishes. With a membership over 50,000, it would be amazing to discover that as many as 1 in 1000 support the site. And the bills come due whether he has the bucks or not: LiteSpeed server space; server support; monthly bandwidth (which must be huge on a graphics-intensive site); chatroom software rental and 123 Flashchat server access; the time he spends here when he could be doing other things; etcetera. Anyone who really appreciates TN should be willing to throw a few bucks a month TT1's way in appreciation. As for the chronic gripers, there are other "nudist" sites out there to try. If you find a better one, enjoy![/quote]

I had joined Skinbook about six months before it folded. I submitted a full length photo from my toes to over the top of my head. I recieved an e-mail from a moderator that it was unaceptable because the top of my head was cut off. I saw the photo as it appeared, full face showing with a bit of hair cropped at the top. I resized the photo and resubmitted. Recieved the same e-mail from the same moderator. Reduced the size again and resubmitted.

Guess what? Same thing.

The moderator had taken the time to send three e-mails to me but never thought to move the photo in the frame so the hair on top of my head would show.

Stupidity may have caused the end of Skinbook.

If you decide to subscribe to TN with theintent of helpingthe site financially, the *Lifetime* subscription is the lowest cost, considering they would never be receiving any additional payments. The shorter terms have continuing - renewal payments - which would help them a lot more, in the long run.
