Please enlighten me.
Hi Tom! ...... good to see you :) If you look to bottom left of page, you will see the facebook "Like" button. If you have an account, you can collect links to things you like, which enables your friends there to see what interest you. NOT a good idea if one needs to be descreet.

Tom === Thomas S. TierneyDec 16, 2010Phil,
Never noticed that. I am on Facebook. Great way to keep in contact with the younger generations. Most of the old folks are afraid of it. All my relatives know I live the nudist lifestyle, but I do not think a link to pictures of my naked old body is something my nieces need.
Thanks for the info.

ThomasDec 16, 2010I don't care if link is there, but won't use it. I don't use FB much, but none of my friends there know I am nudist.

I don't use FB much, but none of my friends there know I am nudist.
But what if someone else uses it on your photo?
They can't, as far as I can tell. The only link it shows on the FB page, is to the TN home (recent activity) page. (even if you click on a "like" at the foot of a thread with pictures posted on it.) This is what it puts on your FB page, and probably your FB friends pages as well, but not sure about that. FB RECENT ACTIVITY Phil likesWelcome to True Nudistsontruenudists.com. (both links come to the TN home page, even though I clicked on the "like" on one of Rudie's pic threads) Here on TN, it is showing me, my, and Cheri's, FB profile pic thumbnail, AND OUR FB (REAL) NAMES, (but only if I'm logged in) as one of the 150 people that "likes this" with a link to her FB profile. (probable only shows your friends)So your TN friends could probably see your real name, and click through to FB to see your real identity there.mmmmmmm, think I'll play it safe and "unlike" it. The link to "unlike" is at the bottom of the page once you have "Liked" it, but you have to be logged into FB, to see it here on TN.
ps. ....... As per usual, a "heads up" and brief overview from TT, of how it all works, WOULD have

Cheri Donna DawsonDec 17, 2010I'm on FB but do not post nudist anything there. I keep up with my 2 grandchildren that way and some long-distance friends. I am also in a private group over there. My club has a page there as well as myspace.

westheathenDec 17, 2010I agree the site is much slower, and as far as I am concerned we would be better off without Fiendbook. As has been said before folks here use alternate ID's so that they will not have problems "outside". This could potentially blow that out of the water.
Just in case you are uncertain by reading the above, mine is a definite NO vote.I am not very impressed with the big brother attitude of FB, one of my friends at work surprised me by presenting me with a list of the folks that I had done searches for. Quite why she looked for it I am not sure, but it has made me very wary of the place.....considering deleting FB as a result of their buttons on here. Either they will go or TN and I get more enjoyment from my time here.

PhilfreeeukOriginal PosterDec 19, 2010
For Firefox users, there's a plugin called NoScript that prevents sites from running Javascript routines on a webpage. If one has no use whatever for Facebook, click on the NoScript icon on the lower right and blockfacebook.net. The link to it vanishes, the end. If desired,google-analytics.comcan also be blocked. Those who are curious about it (it appears all over the Web) can learn about ithere.
I'm getting really pissed off with it being slow and jittery, it's started crashing it as well now. I guess there wouldn't be anything like that NIM, that I can do with 98 on this old box?
ReactReply - PH
PhilfreeeukOriginal PosterDec 19, 2010Thanks for taking the time NIM. I don't think space should be a problem. I upgraded the hard drive a few years back (ok, a lot of years back) to 20 GB and split it. Now showing 3.25 used, 5.53 free. I already Delete Cookies and Files. (about every half hour! :) I just did the clean up and gained 2.3 MB. As for defragging, do that and scandisk, every time it crashes, (part of my repair ritual) once or twice a week lol. God that sounds impressive, but don't get me wrong, that, is the FULL extent of my IT knowledge :) Thanks anyway, worth putting up here, it might well help others.

PhilfreeeukOriginal PosterDec 19, 2010
A question: what make and model is the box? One thing that can be done to speed up a machine is to increase the RAM. Given the low price of memory, it's a cheap upgrade. To tell how much RAM is in it, right-clickMy Computerand clickProperties. The amount of RAM will be listed on the bottom of the information.
It's an ADM, (I think? label's faded :) It was put together years back by a local chap, so it's probably has all sorts of bits in it. I increased the ram with the HD to 184.0 MB. I know it's still small by today's standards, but I don't do a lot on it, though recently I would like to be able to get on utube and such :(ReactReply - PH

westheathenDec 19, 2010
Thanks NIM for the link, I just installed the addblocker add-on for Firefox and the pages load stupid fast now. It cuts out all the useless crap websites DL to your computer every time you load a page, most of it scripts to send your personal info to advertisers so they can target you for adds and dumping cookies ( little spys) on you system. I recommend this to anyone using Firefox, it's well worth the 2 minutes it takes to install it. to get it go here:https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1865
Thanks for that I used to have it installed on my laptop before, but lost it when it crashed and forgot all about it.ReactReply - DE
DesertRatDec 19, 2010No way! If one wants to keep their nudiest life styles private, they should never link up with Face Book. Face Book will take your information from various sources and lump it together. All of your textile friends, co-workers, employers, religious associates and others will soon become aware of your nudist life style. It is technically possible to keep things separate on FB but if you make one mistake, you're outed!

You might want to check out e-bay also, there are a lot of off lease computers cheap. Because most companies change units every 2 or 3 years most are in good shape and fairly up to date. I picked up a couple IBMs for a quarter of the retail price and they're still working great.
It's not you Phil, it seems to take forever for pages to finish loading because the pages are connecting and loading data from FB, Google and other sites. You can see what's going on in the activity bar at the bottom of the window. I sure hope TN is being compensated for these links somehow, otherwise it's a complete waste of bandwidth.
Unfortunately CheriDonna, it seems many people (and they as the IT generation are the folks that should) do not understand them. One of my friends at work runs her social life through FB putting each and every social event on there. Big mistake in my opinion as an attractive young woman she could quite easilly pick up a stalker that way.
I read not long ago that someone has forecast that some folks will have to change their identity in the future due to putting too much info on the web in that way. It may only be scraps dotted around various websites but if you use the same username they all link up. It is very worrying. I am seriously considering deleting my account there.ReactReply
