According to Atlas Obscura, the ancient city of Pompeii, Italy has walls and streets peppered with stone phalluses. It states that scholars consider the depictions of penises to be symbols, with some theories maintaining that the penises were actually good luck signs or symbols meant to ward off the Evil Eye, which is why theyre often found outside homes. Renowned classicist Mary Beard proposes that they simply reflect a masculine society with a penchant for erotic art.

We have something to learn from the past and our "traditional roots."

You see it in many cultures from the antiquity. For example the indian, greek, roman, celtic, german culture, Penisses were a holy object, sometimes even a god. The same for the vulva by the way. But it is more a topic for the history of erotic art than for nudism.

My first thought when reading the title of this thread was the number of times I have heard or read that the penis is ugly. I also believe that it is considered uglier on an older fuller figured man than on one who is young and fit. I also take issue with the publicity videos from nudist venues that make efforts to conceal the penis by shooting only from the waist up, or from the rear, by crossing legs when seated, and by having the well placed plant among others.

In Japan, they have a holiday once a year where they paraded a different sizes of phalluses and the men that carried them are only wearing a white linen like the Samo wrestle would wear. Its a symbol of fertility and women who wants to get pregnant idolizes the giant statues of phalluses in a belief that they will get pregnant.
Penises are a part of the male anatomy that is good to look at whether it is erect or not.

In Sweden the second biggest holiday of the year is Midsummer celebrating the solstice with dancing around a maypole. The holiday started as a fertility celebration with the practical purpose of women becoming pregnant since babies born nine months later had the best chance of survival. The original maypole was a phallus with two wreaths representing testicles hanging from it. When the country was Christianized a cross was added. Thank God it didn't become a religious holiday.

Christians believe that the human body (which includes the penis) to be the ultimate creation. The Bible says the human body is good, fearfully and wonderfully made, and the temple of the Set-apart Spirt. There is an entire book about joys and pleasures of extra-marital oral sex.
Christians say the human body is the bad, shameful, and obscene, and that it's the cause of lust -- it only makes sense that they would considered the penis to be the worst part of it.
If you're going to have any hope of undemonizing the penis -- you might want to start with Christians.

It is best not to lump all members of a certain group as to having certain characteristics or beliefs. There is always a continuum of behaviors and ideals that each will subscribe there to. Your responses to different topics tend to point toward a bias against folks as you espouse an inclusive ideal. Both sides of the coin must be addressed or the stated points ring very, very hollow. In most simple terms, cut Christians a little slack.

Whereas David speaks of being like a tree planted by streams of water, and Jesus speaks of being a naked lily of the valley, the Apostle Paul describes "the thorn in my flesh." The healthiest thing I've done is to realize my Christian teachings conflated everything into a dysfunctional view of the penis, spirit and self. If people in the church can pick, choose and reject their verses, so can I.

Likewise, *the thorn in my flesh* appears in no uncertain terms not to reference anyones penis. This is a logic leap that I cannot reasonably understand. Ten seconds on the internet found thousands of references and not one referenced a penis. Here is a quick one liner, * is used to describe an annoyance or trouble in one's life.* The article also reported that Pauls affliction was most likely eyesight though nothing categorically states that as fact. As I said earlier, give it a rest. Now, can the topic return to phallic symbolism of the ancient Romans?

The naturist I meet and talk to are not obsessed with their own or anyone elses dick, not like many on the site seem to be.
Reaching back into history to justify or excuse your own obsession and claim it s ok for me to do this because , Im a nudist. Well thats not how most nudist think or act and they think the dick obsessed are just making nudism appear weirder to non nudists.
I wish there was a site like Truedicks, where you could all go and obsess over and compare with other Truedicks and leave naturism to those who enjoy it by not making it weirder.

Stevie, now thats a thought. It could be the new *brother* site to TS and have open enrollment, too! Could you imagine the rush of folks to be charter members of the new Truedicks (TD) site? TT1 could offer discount memberships for the first 1000 folks to apply & color code their profile name to demonstrate charter membership status. Oh well, dont think it would happen but it does offer comic relief for non-applicants. And, Stevie, thank you for the humor. Its a good one.

I am confident even if they had a site like you describe they would still hover around because they arent satisfied doing their own thing in a limited space they have to draw on association with nudism/naturism for validation. The post below contradicts itself halfway through, or is this more being half-sarcastic and I'm not catching it? Or is it more about what "they believe" versus what "they say", raising the point of the contradiction running through much of the Book? The Bible is supposedly God's word written by men through a divine connection. Pervasively across all cultures whether we accept it or not , not only is the penis 'demonised' but it is a subset of the inbuilt bias we have around males. Consider the following points:
If I say the word masculinity, many now immediately follow with the word toxicity. The association has become excessively strong in western society and most things considered masculine, including the penis, are by default , now part of a negative bias.
A naked woman is sexy to many but a naked man is not - without a C/O beach here in QLD its not uncommon for police raids on the unofficial C/O beaches. Men get charged, women get warnings...
Its erotic when a woman masturbates, and its disgusting when a man does - Sharon Stone masturbated in the bath tub in the movie "Shiver". This was considered erotic and artistic; can't say any movie scene where a man masturbates is considered anything but porn...
So if wanting to un-demonise the penis there's a lot more work to be done.

Have you considered the reason why no women post on this site, have you consider why there are a fewer women interested in naturism in general? The cock waving brigade often cite that they are the new nudism and old nudism is dying. Thats toxic masculinity, they want their rights to supersede everyone elses. The only way to combat that and stop the negative bias is to call it out where you can.

Can we look at how people exercise power as potentially both "empowerment" or "toxic sexuality" despite their gender? Can we look at sexuality as a gift for both penis and vagina holders? Can we check our white, cisgender and other culturally dominant privileges at the door and recognize we have so much to learn from the outsiders and pioneers who not only challenge us but show us vitality and transformed frameworks for new realities? Maybe it's not about undemonizing the penis in general, but humbly requesting to be undemonized ourself as individuals and men while also reflecting how we've thrown our weight and penises around enough historically to need to undemonize a lot of our world views.

I bring this up for the people here who may want to see Sharon Stone getting happy and they may get frustrated looking for a movie called "Shiver". If you look up the movie "Tremors" for masturbatory content you will be thwarted as well. The other two movies brought up here that depict guys getting off are comedies, even though not everyone would consider them funny. I happen to love "There's Something About Mary" but my lady thought it was ridiculous when I brought it home for her to watch. "American Pie" seems so sophomoric and all I've seen of it are the trailers and I'll never waste my time there. And now how many sequels are there to "Pie"? I'd love a sequel to "Mary" because I feel that the Farelly brothers are unmatched in brotherly farce production. I feel like a director can get away with more risque content when the themes are less farcical. It would be refreshing to see a serious masculine self-love scene but I'm not sure how a director could get an actor to pull it off without it turning sleazy. Yes, I meant to do that. The Bible goes on to say the human body is good, fearfully and wonderful made, and the temple of the Set-apart Spirit. Christians believe this as well. But they turn around (away from scripture) and say that the human body is the cause of lust -- the Bible says lust comes from within -- not from something you see. It's you; not what you see. They say, the human body is shameful and obscene (must be kept covered). They frequently quote the passage that says to be modestly dressed -- pretending that it means to be well-covered. That passage sets modesty in opposition to wearing fancy clothing, fancy jewelry, and having fancy hairdos. Nude, would be as modest as someone could get.

Thus, when someone says, 'All,' in reference to human experience, it's proper to interpret that as meaning most or the vast majority.
