I've just started 'vaping' rather than smoking. A few friends have managed to give up tobacco using this system, does anyone here vape? Having had a few sparks and bits of burning tobacco land on me when nude, I'd say it's a lot safer!

ManOfWicklowOct 2, 2013Not enough tests have been carried out over a long period of time to know if electronic cigarettes are safe to use. Some people in the medical profession are saying these things could possibly be more dangerouse to your health than normal cigarettes.
I believe the only way to stop is, go cold turkey. It is not easy, I know. I once manage it for four months, but after starting again, ended up smoking far more than before. I do intend to give it another shot.
I wish you the best of luck,Tony.ReactReply - MEMemberOct 2, 2013I smoked for years, and the only way to quit in my opinion is will power-cold turkey. It's hard if you truly want to quit, and all but impossible if you're trying for other reasons. I found the toughest times to be the first couple of days, the first couple of beers, and also a period of time about three weeks after quitting. Once i got past those, it was smooth sailing. To this day, I still like the smell of a freshly lit smoke, but am also much more sensitive to the smoker stink that they all emit.
As far as the E-cigarettes, there's this:

-which I am sure is rare.
But, it also links to the FDA which says vaping is still dangerous and not an alternative to quitting. I wonder how inhaling vapor wouldn't contribute to fluid build up in the lungs---pneumonia.ReactReply - TO
TonyJ63Original PosterOct 3, 2013Thanks for the replies and well wishes. I agree about the lack of empirical evidence but it seems a lot safer than smoking. I'd hazard a guess that the governments of the world would be cautious or even anti-vaping as it is taking a lot of tax revenue away from their coffers. I'll admit that I've not got the will power to go cold turkey, but so far an 80% reduction in smoking sounds a lot healthier for me.

Good luck, Tony. Yes, 80% reduction is better than none. But to go from 20 to 0, a chilly bird is the only way.
