Do you change your status to single when you wife of 26 years moves out on you and has a lover or do you wait till the judge says it??
I am upset needless to say.

Legally, it would be when judge signs papers. In actuality, once it is clear there is no chance of reconcilliation, then I would say you were single.

i changed mine the week before my first wife moved out and celebrate the occasion every day, don't let it drag you down enjoy life , i was divorced five years before i even dated seriously and married again after six, take a break and enjoy doing things for yourself those five years were probably some of the best times of my life.

I for one would understand if you never changed it. Don't worry about it. Take your time. When you feel like YOU want to change it, then do it. If anyone Has a problem with that tell them to complain to me, I say it's ok!

I've had bad luck with both my wives. The first one left me and the second one didn't. [This is a joke. I'm not dumb enough to make the same mistake twice.]

For me, I claimed single about 6 months or so after I knew she wasn't coming back, but I didn't feel single for a few years. Just abandoned.

You are single when you feel like single.Take your time. In superficial communication your status in not relevant anyway and when going into more profound exchange with someone, he/she will already know you well enough to understand why you have acted as you did. My general advice would be to acknowledge realities on all front as soon as possible, but you should be the foremost expert in regard of your person, so do as it feels best. Just remember, dragging along the ghosts of past too long may also be harmful - but you did great job by asking here about it. Proof of sensible attitude.

    Good luck

This happened to me twice in my lifetimeand yes, when you're alone from that point on you're single. One does ponder over it for some time, if there could be a reunification, However in my cases I grew away from these thoughts and rather adopted loneliness as my companion. From that point on I was single. I feel free specially when it comes to the enjoyment of being a nudist.

I am upset needless to say.[/quote]If she's out and you don't think she's gonna come back, you can change it anytime you want.

My wife & I, when we split up there was no documentation.  Long story, but in the end one of her previous divorces was not done correctly, so that made our marriage null & void.  Which was just fine as we were on our way apart at the time.  I have dated only three women since the last time I saw my wife (Jan 26th, 2000), and I've celibate since.
