Yes, the messages DO get to their profile inbox. After that, it's up to them. Your sent box will show it if it's not been read yet, has been read, and it'll be gone if they deleted it on their end.

  And, there are not a lot of REALLY active posters.  Lots of passive, check the site every few days types.  They like it, but are not obsessive like me!  LOL!

Gator1[/quote]    LOL Gator, that is definately true of me too.  I have found some people never respond, some it takes a while, some that it would be easier to use an instant chat system because they respond so fast.  It all depends on the person being the type to respond to emails or not.

  To be honest with you, if I find a profile that seems to have a lot in common with me then the next thing I do is see when they last logged in. I tried to speak to a lot of people who had the same interests as me at first but soon realized the reason for no response was many times due to the fact that they are not a very active member. Some say their last log in was over 3 months ago. Whats the point? Anyway, when you see someone you think would be interesting to talk with just keep on sending those messages. If you want to shake hands you have to reach out to do it. Just keep reaching.

  It is human nature to not respond to many emails.  It could be because of busyness.

It happens. Keep in mind that some users get more mail than others and it may take awhile for them to answer.
