How to playLAST PAGEBelow is a four letter word.  Copy and paste it into your post (don't quote or the quotes could get ridiculously long). Change/Replace one letter and type it in next to the original word.  The next person to reply will need to copy and paste two words and so on and so on.No repeating of words.  (To check if a word has already been used, hit control F, a "Find" box will appear on your tool bar, type the word in there. (Thanks for that tip LookN!, Your way is fine too, Phil...I just don't remember what it is!) Let's see how many words we come up with by changing one letter at a time.RULES:1. This game is loosely based on the board game SCRABBLE.  We are following the rules for acceptable words as set forth by SCRABBLE.Acceptable words:"All words labeled as a part of speech (including those listed of foreign origin, and as archaic, obsolete, colloquial, slang, etc are permitted". (Note on foreign words - they must be words that have been incorporated into the English language, i.e. Fino (Spanish sherry) is acceptable, Vous (French for you) is NOT acceptable)Unacceptable words:"Words always capitalized (proper nouns), abbreviations, prefixes and suffixes standing alone, words requiring a hyphen or an apostrophe".     2. As much fun as it would be to rearrange letters, that defeats the purpose of the game.  THE CHALLENGE IS IN CHANGING/REPLACING ONE LETTER!!!       3. You can only play ONE word at a time.     4. If a word is challenged, the correction should be made by the person who catches it and play continues from the correction forward.  If words are lost because of that, then shame on all for not catching it sooner.  Before you "change" a word, please make ABSOLUTELY CERTAIN it truly ISN'T acceptable by looking it up in the final source. See next rule.     5.  (as suggested by Desperado). The following is the final source on acceptable words, if you can't find it here, it's NOT acceptable:      Official Scrabble Players Dictionary (OSPD) ***Please note: in this source the plural tense of a three letter word can often only be found by looking up the singular. ex: LIDS is only listed in source under LID. ***       6. On occasion players post simultaneously creating a double thread.  The game moves on from the FIRST new word to be posted.  Please take a second after posting to look back and make sure this has not happened to you.  If it has then edit and change your word to follow the word that was posted first.  That has been the unspoken "gentlemen's" rule of this game since day one and has helped to keep it a friendly game. 7. PLAY NICE! NO TROLLING, FLAMING OR RUDE REMARKS ABOUT ANY OTHER PLAYER PLEASE!  THIS GAME WAS CREATED AS A PLACE FOR FUN AND TO TAKE A BREAK FROM THE HEATED EXCHANGES THAT SOMETIMES OCCUR ON OTHER THREADS.

There are 15 official Scrabble words ending in _AGS.  We have used 11 of them.  Good time to use the other 4.  :)  :)

It appears thatCIGSis a dead end.  There are no more _AGS; _EGS; _IGS; _OGS; _UGS; or _YGS words available except three:  NEGS; PUGS; YAGS.  There are no CI_S; or CIG_ words available.

Toby, I believe that your word changes two letters, "L" and "D".  Should be other words to use.

Hey, sorry to be a pest.  The substituted letter must be in the same location as the one being replaced.   Example:LOWE ---HOWE.  In your case the letters are in a different order.  If for some reason I'm mistaken, I'm sure we'll find that out.  In my review of the words in the list, I believe that this rule holds true.   Please don't consider this a critique of your playing skills.  We welcome new players at any time.  BTW, I like your pics.

Isn't technology great?  Another use ofCtrl Fis to type any three letters of the last four letter word in the list to find out which combinations have already been used.  All of the previous combinations will be shown.

I ran through all four combinations of L-A-S-E and found all possible words to have been used already.  I counted 19 words in all.  Rats, another dead end.

why was LASE (a valid OSPD word) been deleted when no more combinations were available, when in "Scrabble Part 19" the game ended at that point.  i think this game should be put back the way it was and Scrabble Part 21 needs to be started.

Scrabble 19 ended at "GITS" and was followed by "GETS", with no break in the word sequence.  My comment about no more "_ITS" words did not indicate that we had reached a dead end.   The overall intent, as I understand the rules, is to keep the sequence going throughout the game with no breaks.  Having said that I'm not sure how or why Snugglebunny decides when to start a new series, i.e. Scrabble 21.  I hope this helps....  and yes LASE is a legit word but ALL of the possible words had been played already.  As the ref says in the soccer game: "Play on!!"
why was LASE (a valid OSPD word) been deleted when no more combinations were available, when in "Scrabble Part 19" the game ended at that point.  i think this game should be put back the way it was and Scrabble Part 21 needs to be started.
Okay...just to straighten this out - Scrabble parts 1-19 were created because at that time I did NOT know how to create a "last page" link to help people jump to the most recent entry of the game.  It was becoming a hassle when the game became over 6 pages to keep clicking the page jumps at the bottom of each page, just to get to the most recent entry.  Each new "Scrabble Part" (1-19) begins EXACTLY whre the last one left off, including "part 20".It is not a new game, it has been one, long continuous game for almost 2 years. Now that I have learned how to put in the "last page" link there is no need to start a whole new "scrabble" thread. So we will stick with Part 20 and not create Part 21.   Sometimes we reach a dead end ... no new words can be made because every possibility has already been used.  To keep the game going as one continuous game, when a dead end is reached the last word has been changed so that the game can go on.  This has been an agreement that everyone playing has found acceptable.  That is why LASE was changed even though it is an acceptable word. Each of the regular players has removed/replaced/changed a word when that has happened. When someone other than myself makes that change I always double check to make sure they haven't missed anything.  Desperado is correct. LASE would bring the game to an end as every possibilty to that word has already been used. It happens every couple of months (once it happened several times in one week).  Over the almost two years that the game has been going on, it has happened often enough that those of us who have been playing for a long time have gotten out of the practice of asking each other permission to make that change.   It used to be that someone would send me a message and would have to wait until I got the message (could be several hours or several days) then I would research a way out of the dead-end and message the person whose turn was affected asking permission to make the change and wait until they could respond (again several hours to several days). By the time that whole process was completed it could be up to a week (possibly longer) for the game to continue on.   I know no offense was meant by making the change or by making the change without asking your permission. And I'm sure you would have agreed to it had the situation been explained to you.  This was never a serious game. Just a little diversion from the sometimes heated exchanges that occur here on the forum.  And part of the fun over the years has been to see how long we could keep it going.  LOL, I never expected it to last more than a few months.  In about two weeks, it will be two years!!   Thank you to all who have participated and continue to participate over the last two years. And the game will continue on...   Jen   p.s. anyone know what happened to Nicky?
