Is It Legal To Be Nude In My Backyard? — Legal Issues on True Nudists

I actually wrote to the Sheriff, County District Attorney, and State Attorney General here in Clark County (Las Vegas) Nevada. Both the Sheriff's and Attorney General Offices failed to answer, though they did respond. I'm still awaiting an answer from the DA.Additionally, I asked about nude driving and the minimum coverage required in my front yardor on my street. I don't know if or when I'll ever get a response but at least I haven't been told I've broken any laws nor have I been visited by law enforcement. I'm sure looking forward to apositive response in all cases. Then, it'll just be a matter of getting my wife to accept my nudity or near nudity, or to even join me. Jim

I have spoken to one set of neighbors a number of times bout it. They even helped me build a small wooden deck on the side of the house that is blocked by the shed, the fence, and a bunch of trees. They know I am out there nude often when the sun is out or if it is just warm enough to do so. I spoken to them over the fence a number of times as well. The neighbors wife has visited a few beach years ago and kind of misses it. Offer up my portion of the deck some time is she was interested. I have wanted to venture out further into my yard, and have set up a small location that is blocked by a trampoline, a wind block/view block and huge juniper tree. The thing about the deck is that it only really gets sun around noon in a small corner. So any earlier I need to be out in the yard more.
I know the neighbors directly behind me work 5 days a week and are never home during the hours I would be out, but i am still going to talk to them some time in the next few days and make sure and see if it is ok. The other neighbor that borders the back half are one I have never seen in 5 years. I need to make a point of stopping there also. I would live to be able to lay anywhere in the backyard and not have to worry about sounds or bangs. It would also be nice to be able to do some work around the yard rather than hiding in corners. While I know I am not doing anything wrong, I am definitely not in the business of offending anyone or exposing myself illicitly.
Hopefully they both won't mind and i can finally have that backyard freedom I have been longing for. Other wise, it is back to my corners.

I'll be doing some gardening with only long pants and sneakers to protect the legs...oh and gloves as well as probably my back brace.

Anyone want to visit - it can be done mostly nude.

Remember, even if it's legal, cops have a tendency to arrest and let the judges decide. Legal does not mean you won't get arrested.

I just wrote Florida Representative Alan Grayson:
Rep Grayson, I am writing in hopes that I can convince you to enact legislation to reduce ambiguity of certain Florida laws, specifically regarding Title XLVI Crimes Chapters 800 and 877. These laws talk about lewd and lascivious acts as well as corruption of morals, but except with the specific case of mother's breast feeding does nothing to protect those participating in non-lewd, non-lascivious, non-sexual general nudity from persecution when viewed #1 through a window in their own home, #2 on their own property.
A second, but related issue, is that of women's rights to equality with men, specifically regarding top freedom. By my understanding, Florida is one the few remaining states with ambiguous laws regarding this and only 3 states have laws specifically stating illegality of topless women.In Florida, this even has legal precedent in the case of Sosnow vs The State of Florida, where an appellate court in Florida ruled that FloridaÊ¼s disorderly conduct statute (F.S. 877.03) cannot be applied to simple nudity without a real complainant (not a police ofï¬cer, and not a police ofï¬cer acting on some anonymous complaint). Furthermore, the nudity must be MORE than a mere annoyance, and must cause actual social disorder.However, because it is not specifically written in the law, women are afraid to enjoy equal freedom with men. Also, nudists are afraid to enjoy their freedoms on their own property.
The human body should not be criminalized. Remember that a little over a hundred years ago even showing your ankle was social taboo. Please help eliminate legal ambiguity regarding these issues and stand on the side of freedom.

Thank you for your time,[/quote]The sole reason laws like are about is to keep all the law men/ladies in a job as nobody has a clew what they are on about. Your police force should be able to quote which law they are charging you for for them to be able to do a good job.
Good luck and most likely Alan will have to do a lot of homework, or sweep it under the carpet and hope it goes away.

I have been studying this issue relative to OR and it appears that as long as you are not engaging in sexual activity or trying to arouse other people it is not illegal, Of course, if someone complains or an officer requests you to cover yourself you must do so or be subject to arrest. Interestingly, a thong is considered sufficient as covering. In your front yard it is preferable that you wear at least a thong. I do wear a thong or a micro bikini in my front yard. In the back yard I sometimes go nude and sometimes wear the thong; depending on the type of yard work I am doing. I live with 160 feet of busy road at the back of the property, most of which is screened by trees but about 20 feet are open to the street, no one has complained in the two years we have lived here. In the front no one has complained about my thongs or micro bikinis. I often go nude in front in the early morning to get the paper or evening to take out the garbage; our neighbors are all late risers and get home early from work then stay inside once home.

I'm more worried about good relations with my neighbors than I am the law. Even if it's legal (and I'm pretty sure it is here in Oregon), pissing of a neighbor could easily make life miserable.

I guess I got one advantage to this, I live in the country so I can do anything and nobody knows about it.
I walk around nude, do all the chores nude and my nearest.neighbours are a mile away.

I know when I reached the third post I was thinking the very same thing- the best way to keep them from complaining is by making sure they can't see it without some form of out-of-the-ordinary-effort. Walking in their backyard and glancing over the fence is normal. Erecting a ladder to look over the privacy fence is not. Waving hello to you and yours while watering the flowers is normal. Crawling through the bushes to get a peek is not. I learned that myself years back at a place I was renting. A couple caught a glance of me in my yard while they drove past. The only way they could see for sure "anything", is by stopping in the middle of the road (no pull offs) and crawling through the bushes. Anddddd, wah lah! They video taped me naked as a jay bid! And they turned that over to the county sheriff who, after viewing it with a sgt. I personally knew, wrote them both tickets. Voyeurism/invasion of privacy, trespassing and impeding traffic on a private roadway. Long story behind it really, but essentially they left me alone and went back home with their pride bruised.

The Whole Topic of being nude and being seen is just enough to "Drive anyone Crazy!"
To someone who feels totally normal to walk outside in the "Buff", you would think by now, the general population would have other things to "Give a Crap" about. Such as people being shot and killed?
Here in Canada, in a little Town North of Toronto (Called Orillia) .. There is a man that was charged for walking down a very public trail that actually goes behind peoples homes in broad view.
He was charged with indecent exposer and in the Court room, all of the charges were dropped and apparently, to this day, he still walks the trail.

So.. I realize, this is Canada.. But, the way I see it, if I am seen from the road while being naked in my own backyard. I am not going to worry about it. !
If a man can walk a public trail, then how can the law be so much different went I live only half hour away from Orillia?
What drive's a person crazy though, is even though he was cleared of the charges, still "No one has a FRIGGIN CLUE if you will or will not get arrested for doing the exact same thing in the exact same place on a different day!!"
I just hope that, before the day I die, dam people get over it and concern themselves with more important issue's :)

well I think it most probably is I have a pool and I am surrounded by flats all able to view my luxurious pool and my garden. I felt self conscious for years and then one day I just lay on my bananna lounge naked and swam and wandered around . it was midday and most are at work. one day at mid afternoon I was laying there and I heard a mumur of voices a little giggle muffled sounds and a bit a whisper laughter . I just ignored it and when I fanlay got up I realised it was a few stories up a group of girls had come home early from school and where more than happy to check out the buffed 30 yr old naked and flaunting it. I just will continue to do this for as long as I can . I often get horney and just lay there with a hard on as well sends them into hysterics. I think they are taking pics not for evidence but for social media there seems to be more girls there more often for longer. I think the whole issue needs to turned on its head.

Why can't someone cut out all the legal jargon.. just answer 'Yes' or 'No'.No wonder nakedness for natural reasons such as sunbathing or doing household chores is getting such bad press, people want to make it so public & a really big legal argument type story. Get naked in your backyard, be friendly & tell anyone who might be able to see you, be reasonable & compromise where possible. Live & let live, no worries!
