Jul 29, 2016I hope this isn't a strange question. Do people use nudism as a means of building confidence in how they look themselves? Does nudism boost the self esteem of a person?

Roy StephensJul 29, 2016I guess I'd have to say it does boost mine but that's not at all why I'm a nudist. I simply love the feeling I get when I'm nude. Id still be nude even if I were the only one in the world that did....just sayn
From my perspective, it's less about boosting; or puffing up esteem. If something is puffed up or boosted, it can be deflated or knocked down. Nudism helps you to reach an acceptance of yourself and of others at the level that you/they are so that you can remove the distraction of low self esteem or self confidence or other factors that block a fully enjoyable and purposeful life. It's about shedding stress, which includes the stress that results from thoughts that diminish your esteem.ReactReply - NU
nudonyJul 29, 2016I have met some people - primarily women - who have ventured into social nudity with the primary goal of working on/overcoming their body shame. It often happens at the nude beach, where it's just easier to just venture on the beach without any pressure to be nude. There they can challenge themselves to overcome their fears - at their own pace.- Being nude at home is probably easier (I've read articles and Vlogs about women going nude extensively at home to get over their hang-ups; so it's the most common route); but it's not going to build confidence like being openly nude in a social environment. And overcoming the "shame" of being seen nude. I once met a woman at Mazo who had been dealing with serious body-shame and depression stemming from her obesity, and came to the nude beach in order to try to deal with that. She ended up making friends right away and her initial purpose made way for an actual enjoyment being socially nude on the beach and a total lifestyle change.
- But it doesn't always work. When I was younger my Mom made a similar attempt at the beach. She decided she wanted to go to the C/O portion of the beach because she was tired of feeling bad about her body-shame. We got there and before I knew it she tossed off her bathing suit top. That lasted all but a few minutes because her self-consciousness immediately kicked in. I think you have to be mentally and emotionally ready before going the C/O or nudist route in order to build confidence.

SteveJul 29, 2016I certainly do, and it has made a real difference in my life. When you're hiding your body, you are free to focus on what you imagine to be your problems. When you are not, and are interacting socially, it's incredibly freeing to realize that those problems were entirely in your head, and are irrelevant to your interactions with others.ReactReply - CH
It's not a strange question at all. In my case i didn't become a nudist to try to boost my confidence or self esteem intensionally, but it just happened to boost it after getting naked outdoors for the very first time.
I'm confident when being naked but not so confident when clothed, and just like Bearluvr69 said i also feel more self conscious when wearing shorts and no shirt.ReactReply
