Hi everyone, we are newbies and so happy we found this wonderful site. We don't have any nude friends yet, but we hope to meet some new friends soon.
Hubby and I were having a cocktail last night in our screen patio. Last night our next door neighbors come from the front door, and through the rear fence gate, and we had the CD player on. And we of course are nude. Jim and Carol walked in on us. They froze, as we did. Bill grabs a beach towel that were sitting on and hands it to me. I of course covered up. Bill begins to laugh, and says, "hey guys, I guess the cat is out of the bag" and he is laughing and yes still nude. Our friends didn't laugh. Carol. turns around leaves. Jim says he is so sorry and he begins to question us about our new freedom. It was interesting for sure. But Carol took off and I am sure she isn't sure what to think.
Has this ever happened to anyone else and if so please tell us how to handle it? Please we need some help. LOL
Donna

Newbie59Apr 28, 2018It hasn't happened yet but I expect it to anytime. If I have yard work to do in my backyard I'm naked. I mow, weed, garden, whatever back there fully naked, weather permitting. Since none of my neighbors have 2 story houses and we have privacy fences I'm pretty safe but I have had my neighbors wife hear me in the back and climb on the fence to chat. Fortunately (or not) it was in the winter and too cold to be naked. I'm curious as to what your neighbors wife thinks now. I'm afraid I'd be laughing. It seems like the husband wasn't offended. Maybe you can get them to join you in the hot tub sometime. Let us know how it all turns out!

PeteApr 28, 2018I was a proud nudist when we moved into our current home. We live brutally but do have next door neighbors, upon meeting them and during our initial chat I without embarrassment let them know that I was a nudist. One is in his late 80s and the other is near his 60s, neither made any kind of repulsed remark or ran away. That was nine years ago and neither has been back to check. We have seen them when leaving for town or coming back and will say hello and chat for a moment but do not have a real close relationship and that's fine.
About your neighbor, you might talk to her and get her reaction now that she has had some time to absorb seeing you in all your glory, (she might be intimidated by your beauty), and then let her know that you enjoy the freedom of nudity in what you felt was a relatively safe place. You DO have the right to your expectation of privacy in your back yard. Let her know that should she visit again at least announce herself and give you a chance to cover or she could be surprised again. But once all is said and done do not allow others to dictate how you enjoy the freedom and comfort of nudity. That's my two cents worth. PeteReactReply - MEMemberApr 28, 2018
At first noghing, because there is not a thing to be ashamed of. If they act strangely sit down wigh them and simply explain why nudity is normal to you. Ask their respect for your choices.

Anywhere that we're usually nude at home can't just be walked into by visitors like happened with the OP. We live in a reasonable size town, people don't tend to just walk into neighbours homes and/or gardens unannounced, there is a certain amount of respect for each others privacy. We've lived in bigger and smaller locations, apart from a home in the country when I was a kid where people like our grandparents might just walk in, nobody else has ever assumed that they could do so.
Just about all of our friends who might call round unannounced know that we're nudists and that more than likely we'll be naked at home year round. Some time ago we decided to tell both textile and nudist friends who might visit like this that we prefer to be nude here. Most of our close textile friends knew we are nudists beforehand, if you get very far into our home you're likely to see a few photos of us from our nudist holidays, we haven't lost any friends through telling them. They were friends for other reasons previously, they remain so. Some are fine with us staying naked, others let us know beforehand and we put some clothing on, most of our nudist friends join us naked here, sometimes its a mix of nude and clothed friends. We get on with most of our neighbours but don't socialise with them often, we've got plenty of friends who we do that with.
One set of neighbours do know that we're nudists, we'd seen them naked a few times so we dropped the fact that we live nude at home into conversation, they said they'd seen us as we told them the same thing. They just get naked at home when its hot, they were interested in what we do as nudists away from home but don't seem to be very attracted to social or public nudism. Its great that we don't have to bother about them seeing us naked, but we have to remember that we can't stand nude at a window on all sides of our home without considering who else might see us.

Lakeman221Apr 29, 2018
. Jim and Carol walked in on us. Has this ever happened to anyone else and if so please tell us how to handle it? Please we need some help. LOL Donna
No, Jim and Carol have never walked in on me when I was nude. So I don't know what to tell you to do with dealing with this situation.ReactReply - BB
Bill BowserApr 30, 2018You should not have reacted as you did, because you acted like youd been caught in the act of doing something wrong. Instead you should have acted as if nothing unusual had happened. You should have welcomed your friends and let them bring up the subject of your attire if they wanted to do so. This approach seems to disarm those who choose to be offended by nudity. Most folks wont care. It always works for me when I unexpectedly encounter someone when Im nude. Remember - being nude is no reason for shame or embarrassment.

flyhigh2609Apr 30, 2018The backyard is your space and whoever steps into it must face the facts. My neighbours do see me doing the garden like watering naked in the mornings and evenings. Once they came up with a remark druing a conversations we had and I just replyed with ".... best way to do it..." and conversation went on as normal. Guess best is always acting as it normal and never panic about it at all.

KevLinApr 30, 2018Had something like that years ago, in my mid 30's we were sitting on our back deck after dark and a couple we knew with from our street, came over and were on the deck with us really before we could react. The ex pulled her towel over herself, the neighbor woman turned around and left, the guy apologized as he was leaving. The woman never spoke to us again while we lived there and would go out of her way to avoid us, he did much the same.

Tom DJun 4, 2018Only time I said anything to a neighbor was when an older widower move in next door and mentioned that he liked to keep his patio light on after dark. It was close to our pool and long before we got the privacy fence. I told him I liked to keep my swimsuit off after dark and I the light wouldn't bother me as long as anything he might happen to see because it was on wouldn't bother him. Neither of us has said anything about it since.

John EnglishJun 7, 2018Best thing I did was tell my neighbors I got tired of sneeking around and only enjoying my backyard when they were not around , they have no problems with it and it's kind of cool

noodengr2Jun 7, 2018many years ago my nearest neighbors a retirement aged couple 1/4 mile up the road asked me to get their mail and newspapers in while they were out of town for a week. I did , including an early morning nude walk on a Sunday to get their paper. I had seen they were back but had not gotten around to taking their mail to them. He showed up and I simply did not feel like putting clothes on , so I greeted him nude at the door. He did a double take , but did not seem shocked or upset. I might add, they are not the most sociable people and pretty much keep to themselves.
The next summer at Turtle Lake Nudist resort who do i see in all their glory? My retired neighbors, I think it surprised us both, but we said howdy as we passed on the path. Nothing more was ever said. But he has stopped by a few more times over the years to drop off mis-directed mail and i have almost always been nude to greet him.ReactReply - AL
AlJun 7, 2018To the OPs--sorry you had such an uncomfortable experience with neighbors. As far as what to do, I would first assess what kind of neighborly friendship you want, based on how it is now and where you would want it to go. If these are people that you really enjoy having in your life I would start with a phone call or email indicating that you were as surprised as they were, and that you are learning to get comfortable with nudity at home.
If they are like most Americans (unfortunately), they probably assumed you were preparing for sex and were embarassed. Most people cannot imagine the enjoyment we all have just enjoying the night air naked.
My own experience of my neighbor dropping over to return a dish when I was on my private patio nude was quite different. I fumbled and apologized and he said "Hey, what you do in the privacy of your own yard is your business." But I am a single man and he is a man who suggested we not inform his wife of my nudism. Very dfferent circumstance. So if he comes over alone I always just remain nude. But these are neighbors I want to maintain a good relationship with, so I would never push it further.

I have an enclosed deck off my kitchen,I always sunbathe nude. can't be seen by neighbors or the street. My neighbor lady asked the other day why the deck is enclosed. I said because I like to sunbathe. she said ok, and asked if I sunbathe nude and I said yes. she said that was interesting.

you should have invited them in and had a cocktail, naked. they might have liked it.

JamesJun 1, 2019I suggest having an honest talk with them. Let them know they are welcome to join in, but if it's not their thing, then that's okay too. Although I am curious, why she walked away. If someone barge's into someone else's property without notice, then they have to understand surprises may happen.

PaulJun 3, 2019The original post was over a year ago, and they never returned to update us on the situation, so I would guess this is fake.
For those reading this thread looking for advice with a similar situation, I can offer some input.
Had essentially the same situation when wife and I bought the property we have now. Before even building the house, we introduced ourselves to the nearby property owners. When questions came up about why were laid out the plans for structures the way we were doing, we told them very honestly that we were nudists (we used that word specifically because not everyone knows what a naturist is) and that would afford us the best privacy. Turned out, one of the adjoining property owners was raised nudist and visited resorts, and the other simply did not care, and occasionally goes outside nude himself. Problem solved. Never would have known that if we hadn't been so open in the first place.
