OK, another newbie question - do real enthusiasts keep the clothes off inside during the winter? Here in Michigan, we've got about three months where it's nice to walk around undressed, feeling the breeze on your skin. But in a month or so, it's going to start to get a bit chilly. I'm wondering how other northerners handle this - do you just crank up the thermostat, grin and bear (bare?) it, or do you don fleece and jeans and dream about warm, secluded beaches?

I move to CANCEL Winter this year! Summer was not long enough! OK, so since I know that's not going to happen, I do turn the heat up (depsite the cost) and I agree with the hat and L.L. Bean fleece mocassin slippers! For me the hat, because there just isn't much hair on top any more and my feet get chilly - especially on floors that aren't carpeted! And during those really cold and windy months like January and February, I have been known to put on a sweater even (gasp!). I try to be naked year round at home (even during the Winter). Guess that just makes me naked from the waist down - but some times ya just gotta keep yourself a little warmer. I couldn't wear anything to sleep, so flannel sheets do come in handy that time of year!

BrianSep 16, 2011I live in Canada, so I find ways to cope with the cold. Thicker blankets and fleece sheets on my bed take care of the night time. But during the day when I'm at home, I put the heater dish on high and close the door so the heat can circulate around the room.
ReactReply - MEMemberOct 22, 2011I live in Oz. We do get cold winter nights here. I live in a non-nudist household so don't get to walk around the house much nude but do sleep naked all year round. When it's a bit chilly I have the electric blanket on and the air-con set for the morning so I wake up warm.ReactReply

The human body is a wonderful accomplishment of engineering, including autonomic defenses.
As an attempt at keeping the core temperature up, when heat is being lost too fast, the body shuts down extremities, such as hands and feet, first. Slow, or stop, the heat loss from the least critical parts first.
One can live without hands, and/or feet, but one can not survive long with a frozen liver, or heart, etc.
In any case, it's the extremities that cool first, regardless of what one is wearing, or not wearing, and that's what we're gonna feel first. Fingers and toes.ReactReply - MA

I'm on the French Riviera so up until the middle of October, I was on the naked beach. Now, I'm too busy working and, quite frankly, too bloody cold to get naked (even thou I'm a Brit, 18c is cold after a year!).
I'm just waiting forthe end of March (only a few months!) and I'll be doing my thing again!ReactReply - GA
gabareDec 1, 2011originally from michigan but have lived in the south for years and the benefit is being able to be nude pretty much 12 months of the year, it's december but in the last few weeks i have sunbathed out back several times and nude inside majority of time and at most only a t shirt on or maybe a space heater

- MEMemberDec 5, 2011Yes, I am mostly nude in the house. Socks come in handy since we have tile floors. But the real solution when it gets chilly is a light peshmina scarf I can twine around the torso and shoulders. That seems to do the trick, and can be quickly adjusted if I need to answer the door.

NakedBadgerDec 17, 2011Well, I gotta admit, I'm a wuss when it gets cold ... So: I turn the heat up, though it sort of grates on my environmentalist sensibilities. But I really, really prefer to wear no clothes, and I really, really prefer to be warm. And (my excuse) my apartment is a small space: so I turn up the heat, or turn on a space heater, and the clothes are off and stay off.
If all else fails, I'll pour a drink: whiskey or a good cab will make one feel real toasty all over real soon ...

The house is set to 67. While I'm moving around it's perfectly fine being nude. While I'm sitting/reclining in one place, a quick blanket takes care of any chill.ReactReply - CO
comportaDec 18, 2011for me winter it's kind of crap because is too cold to hang outdoor in the nude way. Even so, while dreaming about warmer days, I use to get some indoor nude swim event, unfortunatelly, just once per month. In january I will try some nude yoga too.
At home, it's no easy to keep me naked during much time :( I will have to wait for upper temperatures to strip off...ReactReply - DA
daves_ndtDec 18, 2011It gets plenty cold where I live, and paying for heat is not fun either. However, I find I can heat one room in the house (my office) so it is plenty toasty and keep the rest of the house much cooler (62 to 55F) . Since I spend most of the time in the office and am moving around when in the rest of the house I find I can usually wear as little as I want- usually nothing in the office and perhaps a teeshirt and socks if I am spending extended time in the cooler parts of the house and not keeping active enough.
Unless it is really cold (below freezing) I usually slip out for a walk in mid-day wearing loose sweats. It's never been too cold to walk across the patio to the hot tub and back without clothing, even at 19 below. (Flip Flops froze to the patio on the return trip though).ReactReply - AL
All4Fun609Dec 31, 2011I am not by any stretch of the imagination a winter person. Can't take the cold. But our house is way too large to heat to a comfortable temperature. I have come up with two solutions to allow myself some nude time in the cold weather.
One is to turn on the heat but close most of the vents except in the room I will be spending a lot of time in - usually the office - and close the door to that room. That way while the rest of the house is a budget-friendly 62 degrees, and the room gets quite warm and comfortable.
The other one is to wear a union suit which is sort of like a whole-body thermal underwear. On the one hand you are completely covered, but on the other it's so loose that you feel mostly nude. Granted, it's not what I'd call form-flattering but it is warm and nonrestrictive.ReactReply
