"Comments" - How do you make one?

I looked and couldn't find any information about how to leave comments for another person.  I am sure it's probably simple, so please don'tflameme, just point me to a help section that tells me about this function.  Thanks.

    at the bottom of their profile.. click the 'add a comment'.. it is a link thingy

    DUH!  Found the link thingy.  Thanks.   Are comments only allowed on profiles for people who are already your friends?  I tried to post a comment to a profile where the person is not yet a friend and it doesn't seem to work.

    You can only leave comments on friend's profiles.  You can leave picture comments on anyone's profile.
