  I nearly always look at the profile of anyone sending me a friends requast before I say yes.  I recommend that you put something, however short in your profile so that people can get a better sense of you and what you want from the site.  There are all sorts on here and it can get a bit dominated by a few on the other side of the pond but don't let that put you off.
