In the days when I had a trailer-tent I would position it so that I could be naked in and around it, only dressing to come and go but usually going to the shower and toilet block simply wrapped in my towel.

I camp at a Vermont campground that is non-nude. I use it because it is very close walking distance to a clothing optional (lake) beach I love to use. It's so interesting that nudity is legal in Vermont, with many places you can walk in the woods nude, and there is a nude beach close by, but this campground does not allow nudity at all and the owners frown even on the very existence of the nude beach. Half the campers use the beach but people have to be discreet at the campground. For a while they had small sex specific restrooms, each with separate toilet stalls and one glass door shower stall visibly open to the sink area. Then about five years ago they added a privacy curtain outside the stall. That was kind of ridiculous as the space was incredibly tiny and cramped and as I said one side was all male anyway, the other female, so who would care? Then last year they went farther and they tore down the old bathrooms and built new private individual restrooms, no more shared spaces, each with locking doors and each with it's own shower, toilet and sink. Anyway, that's what the place is like. I am of course always nude in my tent and I know some other people are nude in their campers and in some of the permanently parked seasonal trailers. I wrap a towel as I walk to and from the restrooms. I wear pants or shorts to walk the couple thousand feet to the clothing optional beach and then strip down there. For years sometimes, if I got up to relieve myself during the night I just did it nude, as a male it's easy to just find a spot near the tent. Then, one year I waited too long to book my space and the only option was to take a site up on a very steep undriveable hill. It was far from the rest rooms and a not too easy walk down a hill to get to them, but it was so remote it provided lots of privacy. Only a few campsites had much of a view into this one and they weren't used too often. So now I actually request it and when I can use it I am able to stay nude some of the time I am there.

Some good stories. I sometimes get a little nude time in when camping at one particular campground, it's tricky as it is quite public with lots of walkers but have used my tent to shield me while I get some sun and read a book.

I have camped with my wife in a couple of non-nude campgrounds where we slept nude, and we both got up in the middle of the night to go out of the tent to pee without bothering to put clothes on. We also camped at a weekend long music festival where we slept nude and had sex about 10:00am in our tent , but neither of us left the tent without putting clothes on first. There were always people active and moving about at that place.

But I like this one because it's close to the beach and I love going for short early morning naked hikes and then a swim and I love walking over after dark and swimming nude. There are usually just a few other people there and they're usually nude too.

I've been to White Caps and didn't like it. The location is all it had going for itself. I was in the tent area and the sites are so small, with no trees providing privacy, that it felt like I was tailgating. The area up the hill sounds nicer, though I didn't see it. One of my pics is from that weekend, though I didn't find the clothing optional area.

When inside my tent, I am almost always nude, unless during hot times when I take rain fly off. I am a nudist, not an exhibitionist after all.

After a few days of going to the showers wrapped only in my towel my wife informed me that my genitals were on complete display as I went up or down the steps.

Wife and I went to a nude beach in California,there was quite a few people still clothed.we were walking nude along the beach and passed 2 women who had their bikinis on.they acted surprised when they saw us and we said this is a nude beach you know.all they said was ok.on our return walk they both were naked.and enjoying it.

If strangers can run across you, that's non consentual and for state and federal and municipal properties likely a bylaw or legal infraction. I hate to be saying this because nudity should be accepted and seen as normal and wholesome. But there are serious implications here. On a private lot, if you have the owner's permission (not a chain and from a manager), there is nothing they can do because it's private property and a complaint would be a while getting in and back with cops. Your best bet is a nude campground. Or wear a sarong or something in public. The other option is wild camping where you grab a little island in a lake after a long canoe paddle and stake it as yours. The rule is no one will try to land and camp on an island that is already occupied and no one cares much in the wilderness IF you see another soul at all.

I have. Not sur e of your area, but here there a lot of campgrounds (MN). I would usually try to find a campsite on the end of the campground and then park my car sideways in front, then I had a bigger tent then needed, but I would put it up to block the side of the site. Now, I would have a fairly private spot facing the lake to enjoy. It's very exciting to do it at a public campground. My wife and I had found a campground that had a spot at the bottom of hill completely separate from the rest of the campground, we spent four days there naked. That time we didn't even hide when the occasional fishermen would come by.

I'll chime in and add to the list of folks who have been discreetly nude at a non-nude campground. A couple of times, I have been with a group that has rented out a group tent site in a state park. Often those are fairly separate from the cabin/motorhome/RV sections and casual nudity is pretty easy without offending anyone. Other times we have rented sites in the "primitive" area, which is also usually some distance from the denser areas. After dark, I'm often naked at the campfire, with a pair of shorts handy if I need them.
I also naked hike some. I never want to offend, and have shorts handy, but have been surprised once or twice, but no one has ever raised a fuss. The typical reaction is just a smile. I'd say that folks who like the outdoors are generally a "live and let live" bunch.

Here in California, nudity is illegal in Bureau of Land Management and National Forest Service areas, and frowned on in other places, so discretion is needed. I did a campout last summer in BLM land in what they call "dispersed camping" where you go deep into the woods. The upside is that you're not likely to meet anybody, the downside is that there are no approved water sources or toilets, so you have to bring your own facilities.
I got to spend two days naked with a friend. We couldn't light a fire, because of the restrictions due to the wildfire crisis.
Shortly after, they closed that whole area to dispersed camping due to the wildfire danger ... not so much that we campers were lighting fires, but that there might be no way of getting us out if the area was on fire. Now that the rainy season is arriving, those bans will be lifted. But the weather will not be amenable to nude camping.
The only time I've been nude in a non-nude campground was very late at night, when I'd go to the restroom and back. I figured that if anybody caught me, I'd plead that nature was calling more loudly than usual, and I had no time to dress. But so far, I haven't had to use that excuse.

my campsite, my fire, I had a big blanket. Patrols were to deter people from exploring a waterfall on the opposite side of the road in complete darkness. no swimming was severely enforced especially at night Local LEO's were not interested in being naked as long as you were responsibly courteous about it if there were minors around.

When camping I am pretty much nude in my tent all the time, except for summer when the rain fly is off the tent. But I will throw on a robe if I have to head to restroom or showers. I am not there to expose myself but no sense in putting on extra clothes that you are just going to take off when you get there.

What do you do about those critters that LOVE open available flesh of all kinds - ie, those pesky mosquitoes! They are not too bad during the day, but come evening time, they are out to "kill"!

They work as long as there is nothing beyond a very gentle breeze (Put it upwind). I first used one (the MR150) on a trip to the BWCA in northern minnesota. I was sceptical at first, but a gentleman coming off the lakes as we were preparing to leave highly recommended it, so we bought one. I was greatly impressed. We would put it under the upside down canoe we were using as a table in camp. Not only got rid of the mosquitos, but also stopped the black files from biting our ankles. I have since bought two more of the Cambridge Mosquito Repellent Patio Shield Lanterns to use on my back porch. Bye-bye mosquitoes.

They are also available at walmart.

No, nudity is NOT illegal in all National Forests and BLM lands. It is prohibited in developed sites and 'areas of concentrated public use". Supervisor Orders (FS) and District Managers (BLM) may include other places, and with shared jurisdiction local ordinances may be in place.
That said, there are millions of acres where being naked is not prohibited, and even more where it isn't enforced. You would not be cited in designated Wilderness. Indeed, BLM has recognized nudity is acceptable in southern California wilderness.
I am a retired ranger. Federal officers can only cite for nudity based on a complaint, not on personal observation. So if you are hiking in wilderness or camping at a remote backcountry site, enjoy.

It's the best summary of the legal status of nudity on federally managed public land. It actually cites the regulations by number, which indicates that they've done some research into the question.
In short, nudity is considered a matter of regulation, not law. Therefore, while there is no law forbidding nudity on public land per se, there are plenty of regulations about it, mostly dealing with what the local authorities wish to consider "lewd or lascivious behavior."
As the previous poster pointed out, most rangers don't feel it necessary to prosecute nude people, although they are well within their rights to ask you to put clothes on if they decided to press the matter. So it just depends on which ranger you meet on which particular day at which particular site.
California's laws regarding their property are a bit murkier, it seems. It all hinges on the definition of "lewd or lascivious behavior." The way I read it, lewdness is in the eye of the beholder. So if somebody is beholding you and isn't aroused by the sight, you're fine. But if they are aroused, then you're guilty of a crime. It seems strange to be punished for somebody else's reaction to your nudity, but evidently that's what the law reads.
