Help, my profile claims I`m on line, but I`m not. How can I correct this?

I have shut the computer totally down and tried to enter the chat room, but it does not allow me because my profile shows I'm already online (but I'm really not). Could someone assist me with this. I wonder if i need to close this profile and open a new profile name. Thanks for any help. I can access my account and messages, but can't enter the chat because it thinks I'm online.
