Naked Church

As a long-time Christian and Naturist, I find their are lots of overlaps between these two important aspects of my life, but very few opportunities to combine the two in any meaningful way beyond my own personal devotions. What is more, I find that a lot of religious communities are intolerant of naturism, and some naturist environments find religious beliefs threatening. Add to that my sexuality (a man who was married to another man for almost 20 years), and the world can be a very hostile place. So, after a lot of thought, I decided recently to launch a new project called 'Naked Church' - a space where anyone and everyone can be free to explore their faith in a welcoming environment, with minimal dogma and maximum affirmation for people of all shapes, sizes and inclinations, where clothes are not required. I wasn't too sure how well received it would be, but was very pleasantly surprised, when I first mooted the idea on a couple of social media sites, at how many people seemed really keen to get involved. About a week ago, I launched a private Facebook group called 'Naked Church' as the initial base for developing the idea, and within days we had 24 people signed up - mostly Christians who feel somewhat alienated from organised religion, a lot of them from the LGBT+ community, and some who just consider themselves 'spiritually open'. In a couple of weeks, we'll be hosting our first 'virtual church service' - an informal Zoom meeting for worship and prayer - and, who knows, maybe in time it will be possible to also host some in-person experiences. But we aim to be more than just a church gathering without clothes, but a place where we can explore exactly what it means to be 'church' in an open-minded and open-hearted way - stripping back the human and ecclesiastical fripperies and getting to the essence of what the Creator intends for Creation, and entering into the true freedom of the children of God, naked and vulnerable on every level. 'Naked Church' is intended to be a simple, unadorned, uncluttered and vulnerable coming-together of God's children to be exposed to divine scrutiny, inspiration and upbuilding, within a Christian framework, without the need for clothes.
