Can anyone explain why I have to go through the whole verification process again to change my assigned user name? Why is this necessary?

Jul 7, 2026I can't really say why. I guess it is due to existing software. Probably, part of the data base relies on User name.
Some day that may change, but for now, the software development is probably focused on adapting to the new nudity laws.

I recommend you change your User name soon rather than later. You only have 8 days of history to loose.

The posting name will change on any uploads along with the name change. When you delete an account, all group and forum messages get deleted, but any photos remain with the tag "Deleted-USER". Even your personal gallery photos don't get deleted from the media server, just the links to them. This is true even when you "delete" individual photos. They don't really get deleted from the server, just the link to them goes away. John aka cobeachbumReactReply - ST
Jul 8, 2026To speculate on an answer the the OP's question. My guess is that you have to re-certify after changing your user name (or your gender) to give the site an opportunity to look for misrepresentation. Say you certify with a real photo as Rudy123 or whatever they assign you. Then you change your user name to Brad Pitt and photoshop a likeness, or swipe a model's photo and call yourself Darlene. So it's a chokepoint. I belong to another site that lets you change your presentation name freely after certification, but requires re-certification after a change of profile picture - which addresses the same problem using a different choke point.
