We received a message from "Miriam in Ghana" telling us about herself and how she needed help getting access to some funds her father left her. This is the first time that we have received one of these messages, other than through our regular e-mail account. I just wanted to let everyone know this is happening.

I like to respond with a message of "Help me, I am a prince trapped in Canada and unable to access my vast riches"

I received the same message a few days ago from "Miriam" copy and pasted tehn sent to administrators to give them a heads up and decide if this perons account with TN should be ended. Haven't seen anything or had reply yet.

Good one NiM. It gave me my chuckle for the day.

I do not know what the "best" way of dealing with this is, but when I got a spam message I just pressed the button marked "spam".  And the offending message just disappeared from my box; I assume it made its way into a holding area somewhere to wait for either of the TTs to hav a look, and take appropriate action.

It's like closing the barn door after the horses get out.  There's nothing that anyone can do about it.

That is not entirely correct Soupie: the offender can be excommunicated to prevent a repeat.

Because I financially support causes that I believe in, I am always getting requests for donations. When I first joined TN, I believed so much in what they were trying to do, I made a donation to them. Until the recent big upgrade/improvement/change over a sponsor tag was included on my profile page. Unfortunately, that is now gone. I maintain several e-mail accounts so I can keep control of the spammers. When things get too bad on any account, I simply drop that account.
